Sengun hasn't been the same player after he was named an All Star He is trying so hard to prove he belongs. That has been the problem.
I almost feel like it's the opposite. He wanted to prove that he could be an all star and was hooping to show that and once he got announced, his play dipped. it's almost like he's relaxed now and feels like his job is done. look at his interviews from last year all the way to this year, how many times did he mention all star as his goal.
You can’t have your go to player not be able to finish around the rim at high clip because he’s always trying to flop and sell the contact. Your go to player has to be consistent and be relied upon when we need him the most and I don’t see that in Alpi going forward.
Not sure if he's going to be an All Star or not but I have a feeling Ime wants a defensive center. Tonight's game was lost in the paint, lack of rebounding, lack of defense. I don't want to put it all on Alpi because it was a team effort but you sort of feel if they could have controlled the paint, they could have won
As usual, Alpi played half of the game good and lost his opportunity to have a great game. The whole team lost their touch in the second half and it looked like a motivation problem.
Facts. Love Alperen, but he has been difficult to watch this year. He has 25 more games to get himself ready to f’ing go for the playoffs. These last 2 games since the break HAVE NOT been perfect, but I love the aggression we are seeing. He is taking the right shots, and that is sometimes more important for a young player than making them. Stay aggressive and fail. Don’t get shy. Don’t lose confidence. We are still developing, so develop. I believe in the JG+Amen+Alperen trio. Don’t forget the highs of this season, just because we hit a few lows.
I’m as critical of Sengun as anyone, and his inability to make simple layups is a joke, but his defense wasn’t the issue last night and he wasn’t “hidden. The wide open Utah 3s (and they hit several tough ones as well) weren’t due to inside help. What is true about him defensively is that he is not the defensive equalizer, ie does not mask anything like some defensive centers do. So …he needs to be phenomenal offensively and he’s just not. The lack of finishing on the interior is beyond ridiculous, and as mentioned by others it may have something to do with looking for fouls but also a fear of getting blocked (which happens at a pretty high level for a center). If he could develop a consistent outside shot it will solve a lot of his issues. There’s definitely an element of immaturity with the kid, and I suspect his popularity in Turkey adds to that. He’s not as good as he thinks he is, but I think he CAN be.
Sengun is just so disappointing, he has so much potential to be great but has made zero improvements in the areas required to take him to the next level. Despite his massive deficiencies and refusal to expand his game he's still able to have such a huge impact on our team as everyone has shown with all the lineup stats and the on-off stuff. And that's what makes it so much worse because I think most of us know what he could be. Just imagine current Sengun except he doesn't miss bunnies, shoots 75% from the free throw line, and shoots 35% from 3? That's 25/12/6. That's a superstar and that's a franchise player. But at this point I just don't think he has it in him.
Wanted him to bet on himself, play this year out and go for the max. That way he would stay hungry. Hopefully he won’t settle for just being a solid player.
What happened to his passing? Aside from the horrible touch this season, he seems to have lost his creativity a bit as well. I remember seeing at least a few flashy dimes every game a few years back. It seems he’s not playing as freely as he used to.
My problem is that he's done literally nothing to address it over four years. It's not like he's trending in the right direction and we just need to give him more time. Look at his free throw percentage in all 4 years, his jump shooting percentages all four years, his three point percentage in all four years. There has been no progress, nothing to look at and say "this is encouraging, maybe he'll get there." I'm not trying to say he will never get better at anything, or that he's peaked as a player or anything like that. But I am saying pretty confidently that he's never going to be the jump shooter he needs to be if he wants to be a real star. Again, still a good player, still can get better, but close to zero chance that he will ever be good at shooting. I just had really high hopes for him.
he's 47% from middies. Down from 51% in late December. Only Amen is better with way less attempts. I would definitely eliminate the 3pter from my diet. As for the dollar throws, it's not easy. There was a center that played here. Took him to the age of 27 to improve to 71%. Can't remember his name. Then there are others that are born shooting 90% from the womb like big Yao. His stance is too wide. Needs paulfsk. And just for fun it took Ingram 6 seasons to get his middle up to 47% DErozan did it in seven seasons. And they're automatic. It's not laziness
