There have been some times where he has played very very well this year but overall, I think it’s been a struggle. The blame, can be allocated to everyone. I don’t always particularly love how the coaching staff uses him. There have been some improvements this year, but there could be more creativity. Stone has built a fine roster, but we don’t provide him the exact spacing he needs. And I don’t necessarily mean that about the starting lineup, but we don’t necessarily have the rotation pieces to sometimes allow him the space to post up And have room to go one on one. The above fact is exacerbated by him being a little bit smaller and he seems a little bit more indecisive this year. Not to mention, people have done scouting and know his tendencies a little bit more. The push shot used to be automatic. And the finishing right around the rim has definitely been scouted out, compounded with him struggling. He lacks the ability to just rise up and finish. He needs to step into the three-pointer and shoot it. He always pauses and it’s not helpful. I also think that he, like Jaylin just puts in a lot of effort on the defensive end and he is still calibrating as a 22 year-old to the physical demand. Adams has generally been so good I really would like to see Senon play a few less minutes. I think that this will help him become effective, and I do think that he will begin to improve as far as offensive efficiency.
agree at least you're not concocting excuses for him and blaming everything else from coaching, to teammates, refs, having to play defense/2 sides of the ball, homecourt, etc
The excuse thing is a specialty of Jalen only fans, not very common around here. however I don’t see any indication of Sengun or any of the young core being lazy or not working hard. Sengun has had massive improvement, is not a negative even during a prolonged shooting slump.
Lord here it comes smh If you remember i predicted SOF would blame coaching when Sengun under performs this season. Right on cue... I also predicted you'd blame his teammates. The Rockets 3pt% has sky rocketed during Jalen's outburst, and Sengun's still missing layups. His inability to finish around the basket isn't his teammates responsibility bro This is correct. He needs to step up & help Jalen. End of story

Great story on Sengun’s journey! https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/60...ren-sengun-rockets-nba-all-star-nikola-jokic/ Hit the fast-forward button for me. So once you’re in the league, and you start hearing these comparisons to Joker that are pretty daunting, do you like that or not? Yeah, I used to like it. But now I have all my game, you know? Now I have a lot of stuff. I’m using some moves from Jokić. I’m using some moves from Dirk (Nowitzki). All the stuff I’m using, I’m watching people and I’m seeing what I can do. I used to like (the Jokić comparison), but now I have my own sh–. Of course they still call me Baby Jokić, but that doesn’t bother me. You took a leap last year (averaging 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, five assists and 1.2 steals in the first season under Udoka). What happened there? Opportunity, and Ime believing in me. That was the biggest reason. He’s shown me that multiple times — last year, this year. He always trusted me. And that’s one of the things in life. You want to find someone that has trust in you. I was always the guy. So in my first two years (under then-coach Stephen Silas) … it was (Kevin Porter Jr.) at that time, Jalen (Green). I was the fourth, fifth option on the team. So I was just trying to earn my stuff, offensive rebound, all that stuff. But now, I’m the first or second option, and Ime gave this to me. I have that confidence now. Last year, there were some games where I was playing bad and Ime was still giving me the game ball. These guys trust in me, so I’ve gotta do something. Whoever trusts me, or backs me up, I will take care of them all my life. That’s how I was when I was kid. … That’s my personality. And Ime trusted me, so I just couldn’t fail him, you know? Everyone wants to be successful here. I want to be successful, too, and I just want to give my everything, whatever I’ve got. So what do you think is the ceiling here? You guys are second in the West. You’re pushing for All-Stars. You obviously signed the kind of contract you never could have imagined when you were a kid. Where does this all go? Yeah, I couldn’t have imagined. I think since I came here, I was always feeling we have good players. We have good talents. You know, we just didn’t know how to play together. But now we play together, and like even my first two years, we didn’t have a really good team. … But I knew it was coming, and we had a great group. Since Ime and his group have been here, everything has changed. Nothing was comfortable anymore, and that’s the biggest reason. I like that a lot. When I was playing bad, I was on the bench. That’s where I’m supposed to be. There’s no, “Oh, you’re the guy. You’re gonna play the whole game.” That’s not Ime’s mentality. If you’re not playing (well), someone (will play for you). What about for you, individually? What’s the vision? I was just talking to my family before I came here, and I was (saying how) I couldn’t imagine being in the NBA and being one of the best in the league — being one of the best players on the team. I wouldn’t imagine that. In Turkey, I was the guy on the team. But I couldn’t imagine coming to the NBA, where we’re playing this game (in video game form) on PS5 or PS4, come here and be one of the best players in the league. I couldn’t imagine that. But the ambition (drove me). You want to be. You want to be. You want to be. That was me all the time. I want to be the best. I want to be the best, you know? And I want to (make) my dad (proud), and my mom. Can you imagine it now? Yeah, of course. I’m still pushing myself every day. Yeah, I’m gonna be the best. I’m gonna be the best.
After watching this, and the more I think about it, I think Senguns conditioning is a really major issue. With the increased effort on defense, increased post ups, running around setting screens multiple times on every possession, the offensive rebounding, it's all just too much for him. His conditioning isn't where it needs to be for his job. I think Ime should either reduce his role while he's on the court (less touches, less post ups, less screens, etc), or reduce his minutes. I hope this season is eye opening for him and he works on this in the offseason. Maybe this is why we're trying to add Robert Williams?
they worked on his strength with boxing during the summer he now need to work more on his cardio, endurance, stamina but does this explain him missing gimmes even in beginning of games? like he's pacing himself and saving his energy?
It's not conditioning. He has turned it on in the fourth quarter mulitiple times this year. He is just throwing up shots instead of shooting this year. Definitely looks hurried. He will get his touch back. He's also using his left hand too much.
Sengun has to be much, much better offensively to justify his athletic and defensive issues. The true shooting % is not good enough this year. We have to face this.
Interesting how many guys try to make one of their best player bad... Are you really Fans of Houston or a Player only Fan?!
Definitely a rockets fan...that's why I'm trying to figure out ways for him to be more effective, rather than just criticizing him.
To the guy calling me a SOF, not so much. I rarely post in this thread. I think there’s a few of you that post too much that are too invested on one side or the other. Sengun has been an average 22 year Old up-and-coming star this year. Issues with conditioning, inconsistent, defense, and offensive efficiency. Still Right there on the edge of deserving an All-Star nod. My single biggest criticism and area where he needs to improve his late game free throws.
