How is this not about the team? The team played a different way and it worked way better. Isn't that worth discussing? And possibly continuing to play that way?
Completely agree with this. The majority of the credit goes to Sengun for executing, it's so much harder to defend when he's on the move. But, Ime deserves a lot of credit for resisting the temptation to hit the "easy button" and just plant Sengun in the middle of the court leading to easy offense in the short term but ultimately an easier offense to defend for the better teams. And, it seems like some folks are thinking we just started playing differently the last couple games. No. The rockets are playing the same as they have since the start of the season, the only difference is a combination shot making from Sengun's teammates and poor opposing defenses. When the Rockets shoot better, Sengun's assist numbers look better. It just opens everything up. It's hard to get a triple double whe. Your teammates keep bricking shots or smoking layups.
This should be highlighted. Don't just iso-post him. Use him as the release valve to make it easier on Fred and Jalen. It makes Alperen more scary because everyone starts worrying about his passing, and then he turns the corner and scores.
Yep, when he starts creating easier shots for teammates, he also makes it easier for himself to score.
It's like in the old days when Jason Kidd would pass it every single play, and then everyone would stop guarding him, and he'd get a wide-open layup. It was so annoying.
This is the way. This is a similar idea to how Sengun got that dunk at the end of the Clippers game, his defender overplayed the handoff because they thought the handoff was coming, Sengun just turned the corner and threw it down. This is something that good offenses (the warriors in particular do it extremely well) really take advantage of - the defense will think they have one of your plays figured out, and then the next time you take advantage of them overplaying it by doing something completely different. If we continue to incorporate this optionality in our offense this team could be special. https://thehighlow.io/video/ids?ids=25mxw6
Hopefully they don't go away from this style. We only saw it against the Kings and Denver then back to storage:
