I thought he said earlier that Sengun came into this season in tremendous shape? Now he's passive-aggressively saying that he's not playing Sengun because Sengun is lazy and out of shape. The offensive engine who Ime is wasting on grinding box-out duty. There's something going on behind the scenes between Sengun and Ime that they aren't telling us.
If I were Alpi, I would ask for a conversation with Ime to understand what is going on. It doesn't make sense to me, unless he has done something very bad behind the scenes, which I cannot imagine. On court, it just doesn't make sense. He was a key part of the 3rd quarter comeback (7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, +12) which was ignited by Tari's energy, then never saw the court again. That's not normal at all.
Damn. Sooooo... he's obviously not happy with where Alpi's at right now. My only problem with that is he let's VanVleet check back into the game I was just thinking that after I watched the full interview. He is talking about him like he's in his dog house for some reason. I'm not sure what's going on but I need them to figure it out. It's obvious that the Warriors game plan was to take away our primary action off of the pick and roll so what was Plan B coach because it definitely didn't look like we had one. I'm not making excuses for Fred or Jalen, but the Warriors were over playing the guards off of every action, so this should have been the perfect game for Alpi to go off. Yeah, he started slow, but damn I feel like coach pulled him too quick and then to not go back and give him another look says to me that there is more to this story.
Ime was up 19 the previous game entering fourth, and decided to go small ball and play fast. and almost lost it playing fast small ball. You can't tell me he has any offensive basketball IQ or game plan whatsoever.
I think y'all will come around and realize that Ime and Sengun are incompatible. The evidence will continue to mount. Right now it seems that my opinion is unpopular but I think it will become more apparent as the season goes on. Ime is just not the right guy for Sengun to succeed. Maybe the momentum will be on the other side and we'll get a movement that wants to fire Ime...but whichever side you come down on, these two just don't work together.
They seemed fine last year. This year, it's weird, and looks like you are right with your assumption so far. One thing I know is that teams will be licking their chops and will make fat trade offers.
It's unpopular on here because I keep posting it in a bunch of threads, and I get very few likes, and I get a ton of pushback.
It is the time of the year when the coach makes comments that doesn't make any sense on why he sat Sengun.
They will give it 2 years, neither Sengün nor Udoka has won anything important as hardware for this ballclub. Both are not off limits. Both got their big contracts, Alpe a little less than expected. Ime for a 2nd time coach Top 5 coaching contract. They have done well without winning anything I mean.
You are correct. They have only played 49 possessions together so far this season. And when they do, we are +16.3, which is 91st percentile in the league. Source: Cleaning The Glass. And if you wonder, isn't that too small a sample size? Last season: 421 possessions where Alpi and Tari were on the court together. +12.8, 97th percentile in the league. I thought the Rockets were analytics-driven. How can they not see what we see? Play them together.
There is a thing called the lesser Evil and nobody is liking it to part with either Ime or Sengün, both good personnel but flawed in their own way. The decision is up to Fertitta.
Going back even further, even in 2022-2023 under Silas, when we were awful - if you played Alpi and Tari together, we were not. 1207 possession, +3.9, 80th percentile in the league. And that was with people like KPJ, KMart, Nix, etc. around them. https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/...&on=4879&on=5106&season=2022#tab-four_factors
SENGUN SUCKED AND GOT BENCHED...Ime has a plan. There wasa reason WHY we wanted to trade for Brook Lopez...Bye bye Senguini.
Im usually with Ime, but this is a bad look lol. At least let him start OT. Then sub him out if needed for a change of pace. To completely bench him in this scenario is pretty bad. Especially when other players didn’t get benched. But I understand Ime. Unless Sengun is like a top 5 in the NBA offensive hub, the offense is probably better off without him with all the fast paced athletes and switchable defense. It’s a tough call. Sengun needs to show he’s HIM, or really we might as well run Amen at C and smother teams. So let’s see. If Im Sengun, Im understandably pissed, and starting to think of other options
