Everybody and his dog knows that Miami's defense is suffocating but Jalen-Sengun pnr worked pretty good. FVV did a piss poor job. I'm blaming him for not trying to find the open man and taking 14 three pointers. That's too much he is a playmaker and playmaking should be his priority. Sengun was feeding him the whole game with kick outs.
I actually think that tracks. As good as Alpi's always been as a passer, it's been clear since day 1 he's a very effective scorer close to the basket. I think he's clearly the #1 option right now, I'm not sure Jokic was in year 3 in terms of scoring. I think if Alpi has better team mates, I think his scoring probably peaks around 25-26 consistently (unless that 3 ball gets more frequent at around 35-38% if it does - game over, that's a superstar) because his playmaking will yield more results. Obviously like all stars he'll still have his less productive nights and his absolute monster games too, often likely partially influenced by how well his team mates are producing and how much load he has to carry (of all fanbases we're well aware of what it looks like when your star player has to elevate himself to astronomical levels to carry his not star team mates.)
They need more people cutting to the basket like KMJ. It would also help if we had a shooting guard who could shoot consistently. I am just about ready to move on from the J. Green experiment and see what Cam can do with extended minutes.
Jokic had: Will Barton (37% from 3pt line - 5.2 attempts) Gary Harris (40% - 5.9) Murray (38%- 5.4) Chandler (36%-3-3) even Milsapp could shoot. Nuggets' starting lineups in 17-18 almost always consisted of at least 3 average and above avg shooters (Excluding Jokic). (Barton-Harris-Murray x20 games), (Barton-Chandler-Murray x28 games), (Barton-Chandler-Harris-Murray x16) etc. Barton shot well in Wizards, so did Harris in Orlando and Lyles in Kings. Chandler is Sixers and Toronto So they had it in them. We don't have many average or above average 3pt shooters. Jabari and FVV are actually good 3pt shooters. Brooks shoots well this season but he isn't an above average 3pt shooter. So FVV-Brooks and Jabari are converting his passes while others are not. While Jokic has better court vision than Sengun he also had more reliable 3pt shooters around him than 23-24 Rockets. I'm not even gonna mention cutters. We don't have a cutter. Cam is but Cam doesn't start.
I am ready to make the change at the 2 guard spot. Cam is both a better shooter and a cutter. He will fit much better with Sengun in the long run. Let Green come in with the 2nd unit.
You have two options: First, just accept the situation and become content whatever you are getting. Second: Try to get best whatever available. If you have a Alp type passer, you can adjust the others to get better. Teach JGreen to cut, tell Jabari get closer to Sengun when he has the ball in painted area,... Brooks and FVV became more efficient at the beginning of the season because of extraordinary passing and screening by Sengun. They had less contested shots. It is very obvious that JGreen will be more efficient at 2s than 3s, train him to be near Sengun then. If Sengun's assist numbers go up, it will be another headache for the opponents. Now they just double/triple Sengun and force FVV to silly 3s.
There is no KMJ but a better version: Tari. Force Tari to learn cut and finish as a dunk than lay-up. Move Jabari to 3, place Jabari-Tari-Sengun frontcourt. Cam is there, Amen is there, both better prospects then illusioned KMJ&and family.
Yea Tari needs to dunk. If he goes for the layup he will get 2 - 3 offensive rebounds and Sengun doesn't get an assist . I would like to see more Tari with Sengun. Add Cam to the mix and the offense will really click.
Tari's rookie stats are not worse than Alp's. These duo is "the corest of the young core". Both are also very likeable people. Tari is also very articulate person-except that "you know"- It is an indication that his mental abilities is quite good, a trainable person. KMJ was dunking and as an offensive reb genius, I am sure Tari can dunk as well.
Won't happen. Udoka still considers him a raw prospect who needs a year or two. He's not wrong i mean after making that 3 he forgot to close out i think it was Duncan Robinson and he made that shot but kid is too good to ignore i've been saying this for a while he should get at least 20 minutes off the bench. Next season he 100% should be a starter though. I've been following NBA long enough to know that he is capable of carrying his 3pt, 2pt%. I'm fine with his tunnel vision as long as we have a great 3pt shooter.
One thing i love about him is that he is clutch. Scored on Lebron in Lakers game and today we needed him to make that layup and he did. He doesn't shy away from responsibilities and shows up when it matters the most which tells me he will be a good playoff performer. You don't go to war with sissies like Sabonis.
