It's for sure mental. He was an 82% free throw shooter with Bestikas in the Turkish league. The free throw thing is a serious problem and I really hope he can fix it.
Yeah, he's shot over 70% in his previous seasons here so clearly he's capable of getting it to at least a respectable point. The concern is if he continues to shoot below 65% from the line teams will eventually began to exploit it and that could impact his playability late in close games.
Yeah. Plus it's not just about the overall percentage (although that is worrying), but even worse is that he shoots worse later in games. According to statmuse he is shooting 50% on free throws in the fourth quarter. And according to nba.com he is shooting 44% on free throws in clutch situations, which is close games with <5 mins left. Could be mental, could be conditioning, could be both. But it absolutely has to be fixed if he wants to be our guy.
He is thinner, but they seem at the same height, so l believe Sengun is 7'0 with shoes, 6'11 without shoes.
lol at the third comment. Some fans just can’t be happy. Your team is the defending champion with a two time MVP and you’re talking about trading him? Given the age difference, it’s a fair argument in a vacuum, but have some loyalty to your hometown player, yeesh.
I posted this in a separate thread, but I thought it was worth posting here, too. It’s nice to see our boy amongst the greats.
Imagine talking about trading Hakeem Olajuwon right after the 1994 championship. Even if you were lucky enough to snag the next young superstar center, it’s blasphemous and just plain bad karma. Sometimes you’ve just got to appreciate what you’ve got.
U can either b a sengun hater and downplay jokic inefficient game or u can revel in the fact that our 21 year old youngster was the reason why. Future is bright for sengun and with ime as his coach, his teammates will get better also. We really need a back up center though for sengun to get rest, his fts percentage is dropping which I partially attribute to fatigue.
There is both conditioning and mental aspects. His conditioning is much better compared to last year but so is role and the effort he puts. I am hoping he’ll get used to it as the season goes on.
He blinked so much, I doubt he watched the whole game. Lol However, its an interesting analogy but I think it's more or less perception. In the first half, Sengun was successful against Jokic, so he assessed that to Sengun's speed against Jokic's strength. However, in the 2nd half, the 3rd and 4th Qtrs, when Jokic was beating Sengun, it was Jokic's timing beating Sengun's speed. So, you can phrase it anyway you determine at that time.
I love Hakeem but if Orlando would have offered a young Shaq for an aging Hakeem, that would have been tough. Hakeem was 40yrs old in 94'. Lol...No one really knew his age. Thats why he fell off so quickly
Sengun is balling out like I knew he was always capable of day 1, and once his co-core draft mate gets more and more comfy in this no nonsense Ime system, they are going to be a young feared duo (and team) to go up against for at least next 5 seasons
That's not it! You got this all wrong! You were watching him, I was watching the chemistry between Jalen, Jabari and Sengun. Don't just watch what Sengun, Jalen or Jabari are doing individually, either. Watch the way others are reacting when one of them score or make a play. Watch the sideline how the TEAM is reacting. None of those were true last year. AGAIN, basketball is a TEAM sports. Jalen cannot achieve what his fandom wants him to achieve by himself. He NEEDS Sengun. And those two NEED Jabari PERIOD! Sengun played a great game. He was focused defending Jokic. I noticed when he is able keep Jokic under 50% FGM, Rockets win! That is a GREAT defense. The problem was that Nuggets geared up the game to Playoff mode and Rockets were not ready for it...It was mental, not physical! Especially after the 3rd period, they thought, they already won the game. That's a rookie mistake and Rockets is a young team! They will make these mistakes in order to grow. They also show resilience by hanging on to their defense. If you did not, well NOTED!!! Sengun is a GREAT player and he will likely get maximum extension. If not from Houston, somewhere else. That is a FACT! Once he is in the game, he improves the ball movement and creates space for our shooters! Once you accept those facts, your assessment might get more realistic. He truly increases the value of others around him.
