And for Jokic it doesn’t add up. Hakeem was a 9 on offense and a 10 on defense. Jokic is a 10 on offense and a 6? On defense. Maybe less? He has good hands which he utilizes well. But he gets beat fairly easily and they build their defense to help him. So I’m giving Hakeem a higher total impact score than Jokic. But that’s just my O.
If jokic is a 10 on offense hakeem is nowhere near a 9, try to be at least a smidge objective. This discussion isn’t worth having at this point anyway, jokic is too young. I would be stunned if he didn’t blow away that group of bigs in 3-4 years but you never know
Nikola Jokic is the best basketball player on the planet right now. Alperen is unlikely to reach Jokic level. I expect him to be somewhere between Sabonis and Jokic level in his prime and i hope it's just closer to Jokic side of the spectrum. That is hell of a player and a perennial all-star.
Hakeem was incredible on offense… how easily they forget. The man had the best footwork of almost any player in the history of the league. He just played in an era where half the court wasn’t utilized by anyone over 6’10”. And a scale of 1-10, there is still quite a difference between a 9 and a 10. But even if you (foolishly) gave Hakeem a 7 or 8, he still has a higher impact.
@Os Trigonum - these Sengunatics like Tim Legler NEVER SHUT UP. Anyway, what does he know about basketball, anyway. Has he ever played at your level? Or @Clutch's level? My confidence level is 60% that he has not. Let's trade him for AJ Griffin. NOPE!!!
i mean you're wrong, but that's fine. Nobody is gonna expect a rockets fan to agree someone is better then hakeem, or a spurs fan with duncan, or lakers fan with shaq, just how it goes
It's obviously not either or. You need to be at least adequate on both to survive, let alone be great, in the NBA. But the mental part is consistently underrated, even ignored. That's why players like Jokic and Sengun weren't picked higher.
Remember the era Hakeem played in. The average points per game for a team in our championship years were 101. Now they're 114. So the 27-28 points Hakeem scored those years would be more like 32 in today's game. Leaguewide efficiency is much better now too, and the pace is higher. I agree Jokic is a better overall offensive player. His passing is just insane. Hakeem had to work hard just to get to the point where he could find the open man on a decent number of double teams. However, once you adjust for scoring context, I think Hakeem was more gifted as a pure scorer, so they're not that far apart on offense.
As much as we all love Hakeem what Jokic does on offense is just different. Hakeem was a scorer when he got the ball you just expected him to shoot. Makes him much easier to guard if that makes any sense. Jokic on the other hand is the most efficient offensive center ever. He's definitely on another level. You may not agree cuz Hakeem's game was much prettier, but Jokic is the greatest offensive center of all time. It's not really close. I see why he says Jokic can't just be a 10 on offense. He's a 10 at scoring and a 10 at play making. We can give Hakeem a 9 and 5. Jokic has 3 of the highest PER seasons ever. But Hakeem was the greatest defensive center of all time so I'm with you that is close, but offensively no one is close the jokic.
Sengun will be the best center or top 2 big in NBA, if his coach was not Silas, he was already all star in his second year... As a human being, you dont have to be basketball expert to see this, his ceiling is off the limits.. Those Sabonis comparison is stupid, Sabonis does not have the offensive talent of Sengun, he is only better in rebounding.
Look at the r****ds picking Kessler someone bomb reddit "Although sengun seems like a player to build around i think if you want to win something you have to go with kessler." good luck winning anything with that bum. Bunch of size queens.
That was from 4 months ago though so before this season started Understandable to be a bit more skeptical at that point--Sengun was coming off a 15, 9, and 4 season, not putting up 21, 9, and 6 like he is now.
My boy's rebounds average just went under 9.0. His teammates better sjow him some love instead of fighting him for rebounds.
If Hakeem played today, which team is stopping him from dropping 40 a game on high efficiency? Man dominated the greatest bigs of all time in a much lower scoring era.
