Suffer till you find one. Historically unless you’re LA, basically you tank till you get one. Or have a low pick turn into one (aka get lucky). Steph, giannis, jokic
Go ahead and suffer. I'm not with you, man. I don't even know why you bother to talk about the team when you don't believe any of our guys will be franchise player and there's nothing you can do about it.
I’m definitely bitter, i don’t have the same love for basketball that i had before that fateful morning in 2018 when i saw foster was officiating game 7. Different times. I do think it’s possible one of our guys could develop, I’m just also realistic and know it’s unlikely. I’m also EXTREMELY against the treadmill of mediocrity and trying to make the playin. I would take 20 wins over 40 any day
you’ll wait till you find lebron type, that shouts ‘I am a generational player’. If you luck into Giannis or jokic you’ll talk about their weaknesses (remember they are young and you don’t know what beast they will develop into) and try to convince people why they can’t be franchise players because nobody with their archetype and/or some stats has never made it before.
Yup. You can easily look at Giannis' rookie stats and say there's no basis to expect him to become the best player in the world. Same for Jokic. It could tell you they'll be great at something, but it's not going to tell you they're going to be a top 6 player. You have to understand psychology and basketball and pair that with stats in order to predict things like that. Otherwise you'll be playing this game where the only outcome you expect is last season's outcome plus or minus 5% difference. That's not how the world works. astrosrule is great at stats, but in terms of context he is misjudging their placement.
Definitely some truth to this. Jokic is not a good example because he was all nba level his 2nd year, but giannis is someone who really developed because of his physical transformation. I'm also not advocating giving up on any of our young guys, you should always wait at least till year 3 (if you drafted them young).
will you watch all 82 during that 20 win season? Or will you disappear until they’re good again? Winning it all is the ultimate goal. But if winning it all is all that mattered, why even tune in to the regular season? I just don’t understand people who only want to play when their team is stacked. Do you not enjoy the fight? The chase? The RIDE?
As long as you are immersed in basketball discussions, still interested in news, it cannot be that bad.
Agreed. In the almost 3 decades since the championship years, the two seasons I enjoyed the most were 07-08 (22-game streak) and 08-09 (taking the stacked Lakers to 7 games). With injuries ravaging Yao and TMac, we had no chance of winning it all. But the fight made me proud of being a Rockets fan.
it's not the same though, waking up at 6 am that day to see foster was the ref took some of the joy and love of the game away that will never come back. I'm more interested in offseason stuff and team building then the games, i probably watch about 4-5 regular season games a year where before i'd watch around 60-70 rockets games plus a ton of national games.
hard to say how i would feel if we really started to improve, maybe it would be exciting, maybe i wouldn't be able to care like i used to
I think those are literally my two favorites. The first year of CP3 was fun, of course, but we were SO good that when we wouldn’t be dominating it would bother me. I almost prefer to be the under dog.
The cp3 year was super cool, that was the only time i had a truly dominant nba team to root for. Only sad part was you knew ultimately silver was not going to allow us to win, so i didn't get as much joy from that season as i should've
The common talk about jokic was how he was just putting stats only in the regular season, how he was unplayable in the playoffs, how because of his defense he won’t win a Championship etc. and I am not even talking about when he was 22, this is as recently as before the playoffs. jokic was already a great player 2 years ago but never had a good supporting cast. And he even elevated his game further in defense and offense to reach another level. And got a ring. So the all nba level at year 2 is kind of hindsight talk. Many did not expect him to be the player he was 2 years ago. I think literally nobody thought he could still elevate his game afterward. That is not something you can see with the stats, so pointing out stats (and stats are not really implying no defense big or hopeless non shooter)and putting a cap on where Sengun ends up is meaningless. The most important data are his improvement rate in the past 5 years, his bbq iq, his work ethic, not his low volume 3pt shooting. That’s kind of non-data. Let’s see how he shoots when he shoots, not when he doesn’t.
I’ve been railing about how he was the best player in the league for a few years now so i’m a jokic guy. You can say it’s hindsight but the numbers are what they are for him
Allow me to play drunken devils advocate. It’s been one championship. Teams could come back this season and have studied how to take Jokic out of the game again. Much like when a player has a breakout season, you gotta replicate before we start changing rules or style of play to beat you.
