But you just said none of what that other poster said was true. And he also mentioned him getting frustrated. Hmm. Which is it? Lol
I know you don't want to miss any chance to take a shot at Sengun but if you actually had any idea about Turkish national team or even if you'd watch few minutes of any game, you'd realize that indeed it was partly coach's fault and Turkish point guards are MUCH MUCH less talented version of KPJ with same boneheaded approach to the game. Croatia just showed 0 respect for Turkish perimeter players because they have no shooting threat and they just locked down the paint with 5 players on almost every occassion. I said it many times that there's 0 chance Alperen can defend a mobile power forward like Saric who can shoot and dribble the ball. He's a center, not PF. Overall, there were some structural issues that this Turkish team has that caused him play bad on some level but he didn't do himself any favour either.
KPJ honestly probably has the same complaints about Sengun in terms of providing negative spacing because of no outside threat. Hopefully they changes this season.
Sengun can't ever win. First, he requested to be excused from the friendlies in order not to interrupt his own training: He was almost declared a traitor. Then, after one mediocre game, people are labeling him as incompetent with not enough talent.
Devils Advocate: he simply lacked the winning mentality to drag his surpisingly incompetent national team (I thought Turkey was a Spain/Serbia/France/Italy tier team wtf???) to victory, and he refused initially because he was scared of failure and only changed his mind because he's weak willed and indecisive.
So Turkey has fallen into the same trap as France, Italy, and Germany where they simply import foreigners and neglect national youth development? How would you fix that? PS: Just looked up and saw that Turkey hasn't qualified for Olympic basketball since the Second World War. How????
Yeah, he lacks some emotional maturity, but the good side of his mentality is that he wants to dunk on people and humiliate them. He should sit down with Dream and see what Dream says about the transition he made from hothead to cold-blooded assassin. In both he dunked on people with glee, but after he matured, he showed less emotion and threw hands less often.
turkey was never Spain or Serbia level, never had their player production and consistency at different levels of play. France and Italy are closer though. Turkey is stronger than those countries at the club level, maybe except for Spain. 3 of the last 5 euroleague champions are Turkish teams, while French and Italian teams hardly ever make final four appearances. All euro teams except for Slovenia(for obvious reasons) use American guards. It is independent of youth development. As for Olympics, Turkey hardly had a strong basketball culture before 1980s. Then with the advance of economy and relations with Europe, it was popularized and we got stronger. A similar story in soccer as well. Competing in euro tournaments is both a blessing and a curse. It helped the sport develop much better compared to other countries in the region but it made it hard to qualify for big tournaments. Yugoslavia splitting up didn’t help either .
I am not sure why Italy is in it but okay....... I am sure italian club teams are better. I think Italy is more a unit than individual excellence and Gallo is always injured. I think a reason Banchero did not join is they were not competitive enough in the last years. Mostly a Quarter finals team than a Final team.
I'd rather have a 33.3% 3 pt."no outside threat" Center than 34.2% 3 pt. shot chucker Shooting Guard.
Those two 3pt percentages are so far out of context. You can tell that those two numbers are irrelevant given how NBA defenses treat those two players when they are at the perimeter.
