People are always thinking "in the now". You got 40 likes for starting this thread and in a yr or two sengun won't even be the best player on the team. It will be jabari. I said it 3 mths ago when he sucked and everyone disagreed but his defense is always much better than sengun, he is a yr younger, and now his offensive game is polishing itself, Sengun is the franchise player now, but is that really a honor? When your the franchise player of the worst team in the league, then your not really a franchise player. Or a star. I'll take bari, tari, tyty, green and draft Miller and call it a day. Don't want sengun, or kpj, . Sengun is fun to watch, but he is one dimensional on offense(post game) no midrange no 3pt shot, and no defense. I'll take Bari over him and not lose sleep about it,.
I'm confident Green unles we get a Wemby or Scoot will be the best player of teh team. Being mroe consistent doesn't mean you are better. Green has more highs where he was the dominate player in wins over elite teams like the Bucks and Suns. Who the franchise player(s) is(are) can be determined by who the opponent defenses primarily gameplan for. Defenses gameplan for Sengun when he has the ball in the paint and when Green has the ball or whenever one of our other wings/guards have the ball in the perimeter. Basically whenever the ball is at the perimeter, the defenses are honed in as a unit on Green regardless of who has the ball as long as Green is somewhere at the perimeter. There is always a chase defender always following him and a long wing or big in his zone covering potential driving lanes. only when the ball is in Sengun's hands in the paint do defenses fully collapse on Sengun and cover the potential passing lanes he might use. Therefore both are "franchise" level potential players. They aren't there yet. But that is their roles with how the defenes play the Rockets. Here is an example of the gravity Green generates: Scrub to 7:10. Jalen Smith is the main defender on Green. NeSmith is hedged towards Green's side. His primary defensive assignment is KJM but he's sagging off him. Green passes to KMJ. NeSmith gets back to his primary assignment in KMJ. But notice Smith does not immediantly go into trying to cut off the driving lane for KMJ like they did Green giving KMJ a clear drive to the right from a flat footed NeSmith and no helper until it was too late. This is the basic gravity Green is already generating as a sophmore who just turned 21.
Man, what a joy it is to witness the birth of the only JOF in CF... Brings tears to my eyes. Welcome to our arms, Baby JOF. You're cuter than Baby Yoda. I think everybody except for some histrionic ladies knew Jabari would come around, and at the Pacers game we saw a sample of what he can do and be. I particularly liked his midrange shots, which this team lacks severely. Now we will see how consistent he is; after all this game might be a fluke. There's no argument he benefits greatly from sharing the court with Sengun; Alpi's screens, passes and box outs all contribute to his stats. (When "the best backcourt in the NBA" totally ignored Bari, Sengun was almost the only player who fed him even when he was throwing up brick after brick.) If Sengun is traded or benched in favor of another big, I believe Bari's numbers will decline a bit. All that said, if he barks at Sengun one more time I will personally fly to Houston and plow him like Mother Earth.
If he was used correctly earlier I wonder how his development would looked like? Imagine in 2017/18/19 urging OKC fans to design a system around him instead of Westbrook LOL
