I would like to make a little addition to what has been written about the comparison of leagues such as Turkish League and G-League & NCAA. Turkish League is a very tough league where contact is allowed too much. In Europe, toughness is allowed a lot in games, and in general, at least 70% of fouled positions in the NBA are not foul in Europe. Apart from that, teams usually make settled attacks and the tempo is much slower than leagues such as NBA, NCAA, G-League. In terms of general quality, I can say that Turkish League is better than NCAA and G-League because I watched all of them. But yesterday, I'm sure everyone saw that one of the things Sengun had the most difficulty was his condition. This is because he has not yet gotten used to the fast game in the NBA. This is not so easy, especially for a big from Europe. With the NBA training sessions he will take in the next few months, his condition will reach the required level and he will get used to the league. It doesn't make sense to send him to the G-League right now because even 10 minutes in the NBA is more valuable to his development than 30 minutes there.
I agree he did seem to have more spring in his highlight clips, so maybe he was a bit nervous. Hoping this is true as well, cause otherwise he looked pretty G.
He didn't look slow footed like people said. Yeah he won't be able to guard Harden, Curry, CP3, Kyrie etc., but how many bigs can? He moves well for his size and understands the game very well. You could tell he would always put himself in a good spot whether it's offense or defense. Looked pretty good guarding the perimeter, albeit it's against summer league level players. Good 1st game, excited for tonight.
So we got what Portland should have had in the mid/late 80s? Arvydas and Clyde on the same team? Life is good.
Arvidas was 7'3", 300lbs and had an amazing 3 point shot Not taking anything away from Sengun, but in the post, Sabonis was closer to Shaq than Sengun. He didn't dance like Sengun, he went over or through the defense in the post. Also, Sabonis' knees were totally shot by the time he got to Portland.
If Jalen runs baseline like that around sengun again, I’ll bet he does a better job of keeping it tighter and staying in bounds. Gotta get used to having a big man that can pass.
Sengun is quicker than your boy DMo. And has more vertical pop. Just overall better. But still not as much love amirite?
