Front offices can be good in one area and bad in another.

Maybe he was a disappoint a few months ago but over the past month or so he's playing at a level deserving of the second pick.

Young teams always lose. KD as a second year player and Russ as a first year player led a 23ish win team.

    I agree.

I just think people are overreacting a bit to a good couple of weeks.

Hopefully, the light has come on and this is who he is.

Thanks for making my point even with KD and Russ they needed other guys to be a good team are any of these guys KD or Russ?

jigglyfly, I think you miss the point.

Your comment was the "Green has to be considered a disappointment as a #2 pick" and "these young players haven't proven anything because we have the worst record in the league."

The reply was, "Westbrook as a rookie and Durant as a 2nd year player only won 23 games."

Your response was, "Are any of these players Westbrook or Durant?"

    --

I'll try to help as someone on the outside looking in.

First, you haven't explained why Jalen is a disappointment as a #2 pick. If your reason is because we're such a bad team, that would imply that anyone drafted that high should be able to produce a good record. KD is obviously a legend and didn't achieve this even in his second year of playing. Perhaps you're overreacting to rookie struggles that happen to so many players, and are easily discounting his great month of play because it doesn't fit your desire to be disappointed in the front office?

I could be wrong, just offering my insight. gmoney411, I apologize if I've misunderstood your point or misrepresented it.

also never forget durant was on stacked teams his whole career.....and still never won anything except when being on the most stacked team of all times and even then he had to be saved by cp3s injury and scott foster in game 7

    Love this guy.

    “I’m dripped today.”
    “My car is flying”

Watching this behind the scenes stuff really shows you that he’s just a big kid that just so happens to be blessed with amazing basketball skills.

    The vibes.

Considering that was about 6 steps it was a great move. Now if only he could do it while playing within the rules that would really be something to see.

I mean we all live and die by hindsight.

We speculate and live in the moment.

I think many comments are made in the moment as well so I wouldn't worry about it.

OKC's second season was bad too but posters should voice their concerns.

Posters can voice as many concerns as they want, but there are some pretty bad faith arguments, logical fallacies, and a total lack of accountability when people can say things without backing them up. A few years ago, I lurked here and always enjoyed seeing trade ideas, scrolling the game threads if I couldn't watch the game, etc., and this year has been basically ****. If I see someone being purposefully or accidentally disingenuous, I'm going to call it out and try to push discourse around here forward if I'm going to go from lurker to participant.

KOC on Sengun (he also talked about Jalen and Jaygup as well)
Didn't really say much about Sengun other than he likes him, but I thought I'd share anyways.

    4. Reason to Watch the Rockets?
Q: Are you finding the Rockets at all fun to watch? — @sports3333333

I’ve watched a good amount of them this past month. All three of Houston’s first-round rookies are a delight. If I was writing for The Ringer Guide to Streaming in March, I would have chosen Houston. On Sunday, I tuned in and saw the Rockets snap a 12-game losing streak by defeating the Grizzlies. Jalen Green put on a show.
Over the past month, Ja Morant has captured a lot of eyes with athletic plays that look similar to the ones Green makes above. Morant was there to see it firsthand Sunday, with Green scoring 24 points. The clip I posted on Twitter doesn’t even include the clutch jumper Green hit in the corner or his hesitation into a crossover against Brandon Clarke.

The type of stuff Green did against Ja and Memphis on Sunday has been a more regular occurrence of late. As Rockets play-by-play announcer Craig Ackerman noted on the broadcast “the light has come on” for Green since February 1. He’s averaging 18.1 points and 3.1 assists over that span while looking more comfortable on the floor than ever.

Green is changing speeds, blowing by defenders, and scoring acrobatically in the paint. He’s pulling up to shoot with fluidity. He’s clicking turbo on the break to get in space and throw down huge dunks. And though he’s not a Rookie of the Year, it would be foolish to discount Green as a candidate to become the best player in his class. No one is as fast and explosive as he is; if his skill keeps catching up he can be a cornerstone.

Then there’s Alperen Sengun, who simply dazzles you with his post play.

Sengun was a personal favorite of mine before the draft because of his unpredictable movements and audacious passes. He was built in the same mold as Nikola Jokic and Domantas Sabonis. Both of those players had to improve as scorers to maximize their playmaking skill, which is now the next step for Sengun.

Sengun flashed 3-point shooting upside in Turkey but it hasn’t quite clicked for him in the NBA; he is shooting 25 percent from 3 and 25 percent on 2s outside of the paint. There are never guarantees. Sometimes flashes are all they ever are. But if Sengun’s perimeter scoring develops, he has the potential to be like Sabonis with even more pizzazz.

Josh Christopher is the forgotten rookie in Houston with Green and Sengun getting all the love. It’s been an up-and-down season for him as he struggles to score with any efficiency. But he has some herky-jerky movements that showcase the scoring ability he had at Arizona State.

There’s a trend with the players Houston is betting on. Christopher, Green, and Kevin Porter Jr. are all raw scorers with the type of talents that are hard to develop. They have a combination of athleticism and handling that at least gives them the chance to become go-to scorers. Even Sengun, in a different type of way as an interior player, is a similar upside bet.

Houston isn’t in the business of drafting for certainty. It still has a long, long way to go. But the Rockets have plenty of entertaining players looking to make names for themselves. They might have the West’s worst record, but they’re a lot of fun to watch, too.

If you're a true Rockets fan you have to just love Sengun. Growing up watching Hakeem, Yao and Scola work the post and now seeing Sengun and what he could be capable of...it brings a smile to my face every time.

the bigger test for green will come next year .
Let’s see how much he can improve / hold serve over the summer .

I think the OKC comparison is interesting. However , I also think we need to look at GS more recently too . I say this to say ... we should NOT be trying to lose games next year .

we bring in another couple of lottery picks this year and our young guys put in work ... we should NOT be at the bottom of the league again . And if there are moves we can make for better fit and not take on long term salary / send out assets ... We should do that .

I don’t know what role playing green 30 mpg in November and December played in who he is today . He may have simply had more time to work on skills . But I think it’s a good sign that his body is holding up . I was a little worried with the hammy pulls .

We have been very cautious with sengun , but these last couple of games have been fantastic to see from a minutes standpoint . Dallas bigs are a bit more active than lakers guys . Will be a good test for him tonight . Maybe we have Tate back .

    Back to OKC .
They should be someone you want to follow from how much talent they got , but not in how they grew on court and obviously the direction in trades .

people forget they had another top 5 pick in green too .

    so

    KD / green
    WB
    Harden

    all top 5 picks .

    so far we have

    2/16/23/24
x/x with one likely being top 5-6 and the other 14-18
buuuut we also had KPJ on the team who is high talent level .

their wins went from 23 to 50 tho in hardens first year .

And if we tank again next year I’d say that’s the bar . Tanking isn’t pleasant and doing it for 3 years in a row should start having some damn good results soon .

I’d rather grab more wins and pick 7-12 next year . Other teams have proven it , you can get good enough results from those pics . It’s about your player development process and structure.

I wanna see it . 2 Years is enough . Stop hiding behind the plan of tanking . Sengun and green ... And a couple of the rest of the guys have enough talent . Add a couple more youngsters who have drive and play hard and wanna win .

as the team tries to get better wins are worth a lot . Seeing your growth , testing it , and coming out with a W is necessary.
