Would like to see more Sengun in the high post on sets. Not sure we keep him out on the perimeter like Wood.
Not to make this a Chet discussion, but isn't spacing and defensive flexibility exactly what he brings? I don't see him strictly as a 5. I thought people were seeing him in that hybrid big role, similar to Mobley? I can see Sengun filling the Timme role, but better. Offensively operating out of high and low post, while Chet spaces and attacks when the defense collapses. Sengun to Chet lobs? Sneaky Sengun passes out of the post to a cutting Chet? Yes please. On defense, Sengun can body up bigger centers while Chet roams and hunts weakside. If Sengun gets caught in an unfavorable switch, I think Chet can help cover him with his length. Could also stagger them in lineups. Play 5 out with Sengun (you could probably do this with Chet on the floor too). Or pace and space with Chet in the middle. You could probably do similar things with Jabari, but I think Chet is that much better defensively.
Sengun has nowhere close to the physical gifts that Hakeem had. If he had Hakeem's size and/or athleticism the conversation about Sengun would be much different.
The Rockets have the worst record in the NBA.You take best player available and figure out the rest later. Sengun should not even factor in at this point.
Even as a huge Sengun and Green fan, I totally agree. Whether the player fits is irrelevant, just get the best guy. These contracts are lucrative, we can move a player around easily. Having said that, I think Jabari may be the best player who also happens to be a good fit. Don’t know much about his character though.
Chet has game, I like the kid. He needs to pack on some pounds BUT HELL we have nothing but time here.
That's only the case if they are a potential franchise caliber player, if they aren't, you consider fit. For example, the team doesn't need any more guards unless we're talking a franchise caliber SG or PG. Anything less than that and you pass on them for a forward or center.....but no matter what, they have to be able to shoot in order to fit with the team. Only the worst teams keep drafting the same position with to draft picks..... like Minnesota back when they couldn't get enough mediocre point guards.
Because developing and adding a jump shot to his arsenal will do more to open up his game than anything else and the only way to improve is to do. We know he has post moves and passing. We want to know what else he can do and more importantly, do well.
Who gives a **** about some worthless award? Last time I checked, this was the Houston ROCKETS and not the Houston Sengun.
I agree with this. I think Chet and Jabari could be franchise players. I don’t believe any of the others will quite make that level. Both Chet and Jabari would fit fine with Sengun. Talk of his athletic inability is overstated. He also could grow and I’m sure he will get stronger. I do believe he is a center and next year will be more than capable of muscling up with bigs in the paint. His defensive liabilities can be covered up by weak side help and a decent defensive scheme (which probably means a new coach).
Sengun has the passing skills of a maestro, but lacks the ball handles. Plus he lack leadership or fails to use it. U think wood or kpj gonna listen to a rookie?
He can still take jumpers from the high post. I think him working on his 17ft jumpers and working on his offense from that area is more crucial to his development than having him be a spot up shooter from 3.
Spacing in the NCAA is an absolute joke. No one plays with space so stacking two bigs is going to be less of a negative there. Chet's major issue next to Sengun is the fact that both really strive as the drop on defense. Chet on the perimeter is not where he is best. I don't believe Sengun can be a switch big so basically you are relying on Chet's less than ideal defensive positioning and taking away his greatest asset which is as a rim protector. He is basically Rudy Gobert at keeping a lid on the rim even at his slim frame. The way he makes up for his lack of foot speed on the perimeter is using his length to make it less of an issue. The problem there once again is that the court is smaller and the spacing is jacked up. Now imagine a 5 out system where Sengun is in the drop and Chet is on the perimeter. Chet will play more of a funneling role and Sengun would be the man in the paint. It could work but it's not a clear fit. Jabari on the other hand is fast as a gazelle at moving his feet and I believe will be an elite switching defender who will eventually get the instincts to become more of a rim protector. I do believe they are neck and neck as prospects with the edge to Chet because of his insane ceiling but Jabari is a seamless fit if Sengun is in your future, while Chet and Sengun may present an awkward pairing. That's what you should know but I'm sure the FO has better data than that available as a predictor.
