CWood has been tearing it up. I get we want Sengun to get more minutes but Wood deserves his 36 minutes. Let's see what happens after the deadline.
And the game ball goes to, with -17... Christian Wood! No matter what happens at the deadline, if Alpi doesn't ask for a trade soon, his career will be wasted under Silas's coaching. 12 minutes of pure terror caused by fear of getting yanked every time he fouls. F*** you Silas, you no-good sneaky s.o.b..
Sengun was not good overall this game. Defensively he was constantly late, got bailed out several times. Love Alpi but the defense and fouling have to improve. I would love him to get 30 minutes anyway, but after games like this I'm not mad he only got 12 or whatever. This kid has a crazy ceiling I'm just super impatient about these tiny things that are unnecessarily reducing his on court impact. He's young though I know he'll be fine.
I'm as big a fan of Sengun as anyone on this board. My friend even got me a Sengun jersey for Christmas because I never shut up about him. But damn, temper your expectations. Sengun has played awful basketball lately. Maybe Silas has something to do with it? Maybe he's afraid to mess up...but he needs to tough it out and play on if that's the case. The opposing team has his respect now. He's all over the opponents scouting reports and he hasn't had an answer for the way teams have defended him the last couple of weeks. His minutes were reduced because CWood has thoroughly outplayed him in every regard. You're gonna tell me you watched tonight's game and your only takeaway is Wood's -17? Sengun was getting COOKED by Steph. Demand a trade... Lol.
I say Sengun regressed because Silas broke him. And why don't we cut the cr@p about these foul troubles? Wouldn't you rather have the Energizer Alpi of 2-3 months ago who tried to challenge everything than his current sleepwalking shadow? It's not like he will foul out in 12 minutes anyway. He deserves his minutes and he deserves some freedom, if only to make mistakes and learn from them. This guy was an MVP, and I don't care if it was in the basketball league of Liechtenstein. (Though I've even come acroos a f**khead who claimed Sengun lacked fundamentals. Fundamentals, for God's sake!) So I repeat: F*** you Silas, you no-good sneaky s.o.b.
Watching Sengun fanatics meltdown constantly is always hilarious to me. It's reminds me of how LoFs used to absolutely lose their ****. Sengun has been pretty bad since coming back from injury. Him being hesitant and a step slow is more about that than any perceived slight by Silas. At the same time, Wood has absolutely been outplaying him on the offensive end, which can only help his trade value. Why wouldn't we play Wood heavy minutes? It's completely asinine to expect or even want otherwise. Don't know if it's because we are tanking or it's COVID or what, but people are impatient at comedic levels. We have folks labeling super young rookies as bust less than a season. We have other folks labeling rookies as the best player in the league. The stupidity has got to be nearing critical mass.
I don’t get the mid season experiment to turn Sengun into a post player and just randomly insert post up sets in the 2nd quarter. Sengun was really excelling at high post corner action where he could make solid passes coming off a screen and roll. Sengun has great potential in the post but that’s something you insert into training camp and the preseason. You also need to go to those sets early and often because post ups only work if you have great off the ball action with cutters and shooters. This isn’t Robert Horry and Kenny Smith here working off of Hakeem. Youngsters like KJ and Jalen Green have probably never ran a post up set with a big once in their careers in high school, AAU, and the GLeague. Let’s not just randomly act like we are the 94 Rockets dumping the ball to Hakeem here Silas. It’s setting up Sengun to look like crap.
Crazy idea, but maybe they are trying to see what various things he might show promise or be capable at? As you said, he has great potential in the post so why not let him see what he can figure out in this lost season? At the same time, why not let our younguns start learning how to run post sets in game? It doesn't matter that our players look like crap. What does matter is how they continue to try and develop and experiment.
Because it looks like they haven’t had one single practice where they’ve worked on in and learned the plays. I totally want Silas to use the second half of the season to experiment a lot and push these young guys skill set, but as a former player myself, I know you have to have some extensive practice that I doubt they’ve had. Plus the high corner sets had ALOT of room to grow and build off of with new actions off the ball. I’m a “let’s build off of what is already showing promise” kind of guy. Let’s get good at one thing before we start trying everything. I know they are eager to see if Hakeems mojo has rubbed off but I just think you’re more likely for him to lose confidence, and especially for his teammates to lose confidence in the low post sets at this stage and break plays. All these young guys think they deserve touches. If they aren’t ready for these sets and Sengun isn’t looking like Hakeem out there they’ll break the sets and play me first ball.
he looks different after the injury + teams have been scouting him better + the refs treat him like Dwight Howard. Super bullish on him and I think the most sound reason to look for another coach who knows how to use him. But we have to temper our expectations, dude is going to be a beast.
Well it was Porter Jr who ended up with 17 points It's more about selling Christian Wood right now and accentuate his positives. Wood: 24 points/ 13 rebounds/50% (FG%)/ 55.6% (3P%)/ 75% (FT%)..... 17 pts by halftime. Trade deadline is in 9 days. Sengun will probably get his minutes bumped up to about 26 minutes per game with no C Wood on the team after the 10th of Feb. @jacoby is correct Those who stock the shelves at your local grocery market are taught to put the product label facing out towards the customer. Make it more appealing to the customers. C Wood is being shown label out. Not all nillly-willy. Patience grasshoppers.
It is really discouraging seeing the regression that Alp is having. He was a better defender and made quicker reads to start the season. His confidence was up. Honestly there’s regression in JG as well. The rookie wall is probably a factor, but the biggest factor is the lack of player development. This coaching staff is garbage. They’re going to ruin two great talents.
The Sengun superstar take was always a little too ambitious. But I am confident his floor is a solid rotational player.
I don’t think it’s too ambitious. He needs a staff that will utilize his talents and he also needs teammates that know how to play fundamental basketball. He still has more potential to become a star than any of the other rookies just because of his skillset and the fact he’s already been an MVP in one of the best leagues in the world
He's run more post plays (92) than anybody on the team this season - doesn't seem like a new thing: https://www.nba.com/stats/players/p...*HOU&SeasonType=Regular Season&PerMode=Totals
Yes, I feel I'm required to say, "step away from the ledge. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Everything is going to be alright." 9 more days. Probably 3 games in that span of time. And Wood probably will be sitting the game the day of the 10th (Feb). Hang in there, two more games and our hero will arrive to save the day!!!!!!!!!!! Fulltime!!!!!!!!! edited: 4 more games. Put the pistol down!!!!!!
This is one of the stupidest posts I have ever seen. He is 19 years old and he gets playing time in every game he's healthy enough to play. Do you know how many players rot on the bench for years before getting their chance? The idea that his career is at risk because of limited minutes in his rookie year before he has even turned 20 is just laughable. I'd love to see him get more minutes, but don't be stupid about this.
How in the hell is this coaching staff garbage when KPJ, KJ Martin and Josh Christopher are all taking large leaps? I think Green and Sengun are just hitting the rookie wall.
