It's so weird, the coach does something everyone disagrees with, then Sengun plays well with the coach's decisions, then people are pissed at why the coach is deciding things. Sengun is gaining experience and developing. It's the first time he's learning to patrol the NBA paint properly. Give the dude some time to brush up on defense, turnovers, stamina and 3pt shooting. Just to minimize them and do what can be done. Those things are all things his teammates need from him so they can work well together. We've hired some excellent defensive coaches. I think they really want to build him up from scratch, teaching him everything about being a defensive anchor gradually. It's going to be a HUGE benefit in his career if it works. His shooting seems slightly improved and I have a feeling he'll improve as the season progresses. If these two things happen this season, it's worth waiting to work on everything else. Going from bad to average interior defender can catapult his value and impact in a way that 2-3 assists certainly will not. Trust me on this one, Sengun's development is going great. Overall despite a couple of hiccups, they seem to be teaching him the right way. Believe me his defense will improve along with this young team in general. He's got a lot to learn about defensive schemes I'm 100% sure of that. Any team that would not work on his fitness, defense, turnovers and 3pt shooting skills at exactly this juncture of his career would be doing him a disservice. It's really not logical to have him run a big chunk of offense while he's already working on and off the court on learning a bunch of new stuff. I say it all the time, defense is half of the game. HALF. That's way more important than assists, which is a sub category of offense. Can't wait to see how he looks by game 20 or so.

Like I have said in other threads, Silas does not know how to use Sengun. Our offense is terrible when we do not use him correctly. Seeing how Sengun and more veteran players like Gordon (and Augustin and Schröder last year) play together is fun to watch. They understand the game. Letting Porter go into his tunnel vision is worthless. I believe that Porter can be an amazing scorer of the bench. One that you can put in and he will score. But he is not a point guard, and he should not be the one leading the offense. When you force him to do that you set him up to fail. I do not care that we didn't win. But I do care that our young players aren't used correctly, and I really do not understand how you keep going away from playing through Sengun. You can see the frustration with Sengun. There were multiple times he had god position, but they did not get him the ball (and porter took a step back three, or we ended up doing something else stupid). I remember at least 3 times that Sengun just threw his hands in the air after being ignored for the thousands time.
