Sengun is fat but he will slim down by the time the rockets are in contention. Yall see how fat Luka is right now? Luka playing so well looking like he ate 1 sengun and 2 garubas.
His fouls and his sloppy passes need to be toned down. Have high expectations from him next year. He needs to make better decisions.
He looked tired even in the first half. I thought the free throw misses were because of that as well.
Sengun makes more good decisions than bad, with and without the ball. Even this year with more minutes expect him to do the same stuff. 3rd or 4th year maybe we can start whining.
When I was watching this "friendly" game and witnessing Cedi-Dragic, Luka-Bitim arguments I remembered again there is no friendly match/game in Europe, especially in Balkans. Here is Turkish sprit just before an international game:
Yes winning will be nice and it will come. That is the goal. Sengun being at his best physically will help them reach that goal. I think he's really good, but with more explosiveness he can be great.
Please don't forget this game was a trial game, similar to NBA Summer League. Some points: -Ataman is famous for limited rotation. He will not use 12 men squad, likely 7 or 8 people will play in official games.Ataman wants to see the efficiency of some players (Kabaca,Saybir,Birsen). That is the reason why Alpi does not start in trials. He is certainly a starter for real games. -The playmaker of the team is former NBA player Shane Larkin. He has just returned from the USA and Ataman tries to figure out who will back-up him. He tried several players there today ( Bugrahan Tuncer. Sehmus Hazer, D.Ozdemiroglu,Onuralp Bitim). As the team has no solid playmaker the team's and Alpi's creativity was limited. -As Furkan Korkmaz' NBA season/minutes was negatively effected by Simmons-Harden trade and quite likely Furkan will be off-loaded by Sixers, he was given more chance/minutes to shine and save the career (he did well, scored 33).As Cedi of Cavaliers also using the ball a lot Alpi got less chance. -Alpi put weight on, too much. It helps to battle against heavy bigs such as Ziga Dimec ( 6'11", 250 pounds) but it certainly badly effects his athleticism and free throwing. -Slovenia is #5 in FIBA ranking, the last Euro champions and current favourite for Euro22.Not an easy opponent to beat.It was a really good game to test something, for both sides. -Expectations for Alpi, especially the other side of the pond is too high (I am also one of the high expectator).19 points,9 rebs,3 blocks seems disappointed.I like the idea.Alpi should score 25p/12r/8a/5b average. One day,I hope. The next game will be an easy one against Poland but next week's double duel against Giannis-led Greece in Greece will give us better idea about Alpi.He should score more, especially from FTs.
I kinda don't mind Sengun getting fat. This is the Jokic way. Let him do what he needs to do to max out his height and length, and then in his 21+ years he can cut out the dead weight. He's the kind of player whose maximum effectiveness will be whatever combination his brain and his height can get him to, rather than his body fat%.
I disagree. Body fat % is almost perfectly inversely correlated with 3PT%. There's a reason most of the great shooters in NBA history were either rail thin or at least smaller for their size. The less said about what effects bulking up will have on his defense, the better. Jokic couldn't shoot at all or play more than 25 minutes per game before he slimmed down. After slimming down, he became a perennial MVP canidate.
All the talk about weight and muscle. Who cares? offensively his directive is clear. Improve ft% and 3pt% decently. 3s at 35%+. Fts at high 70s. granted if the body impacts him defensively than I get the point …
people out here talking about fat, but fat sengun out here playing good basketball. he will lose the weight.
He does need to slim down for conditioning reasons more than anything. Last year that was one of the main reasons why he didn't get as many minutes
