I just got home after a week long trip to Houston. My allergies kicked in immediately. Went to the allery doctor and picked up a bundle of medicine to get me through the week. I finally discovered a combo on Wednesday that made them at least tolerable. 2 Claratin 2 Singulair 2 Zyrtec 2 sprays of Nasonex (nose spray) 2 drops of Pataday (Eye Drops) One set in the morning and the 2nd set in the mid-afternoon. But, I'm back in Colorado now where I have yet to experience a symptom in the 3 years I have lived here after struggling year round in Houston for my entire life.
That's taking way too many antihistamine drugs. Your mouth, eyes, and throat must've been extremely dry, in addition to it being dangerous for your heart.
Anybody use Walgreens' version of Mucinex? Was considering buying it, but then decided there had to be a reason other than price on why the Mucinex was locked up and the Walgreens brand wasn't.
i spent the first 20 years of my life in houston and always had allergies, but nothing like i have here in austin. actually, the first few years i was here i didnt really have problems and i remember thinking that i had finally escaped my allergies - then my immunity wore off and it became worse for me than houston ever was. the previous couple years had actually not been so bad for me, but right now is about as bad as its ever been. i take claratin d before going to bed, but even that wasnt working the last couple days - i also had an abscessed tooth removed last week and have been on antibioitics and vicodin, so added to the claratin the days have just been floating by...lalalalalalala. check this out... http://www.kvue.com/weather/allergy-forecast oak pollen is off the charts - oak is considered high at 127 gr/m3 - click on the allergy history link and see that yesterday it was at 1027 gr/m3 - almost 10x's the normal high.
My allergies are pretty bad right now. I've been sneezing nonstop, coughing with nothing coming up, with an itchy throat/eyes/nose. Strangely enough though, as much as I normally struggle with sinus pain, it really hasn't been bothering me at all. Oak pollen, eh? That stuff's sure a b****...
As others have noted, Houston isn't nearly as bad as other parts of Texas. If you look at an Allergy map, 98% of the time the nexus of bad allergies is right in the Dallas-Ft Worth area. Not to downplay Houston- all of Texas sucks balls compared to national levels. I have year-round dust allergies and seasonal ragweed allergies so the worst time of year for me is in the fall. My allergy routine: One Zyrtec at night. Two Shots of nasal spray - Fluticazone in the morning, two more in the afternoon if it's really bad. Alka-Seltzer cold at night if I can't breathe. Benadryl if none of that helps. Recently, I've found that Neti-Pot works wonders. I use it daily after a shower in the morning when the mucus is nice and soft. I'll also take a hot shower and use it again if I've been outside all day for any reason to flush out my nasal cavities. A lot of people think it's hogwash, but there isn't a doctor or doctor's assistant I've talked to who doesn't swear by some sort of nasal irrigation/flushing (and I work in medical clinics). I'd say it's the best thing I've found in the past year for allergies. It's a little strange at first, but you get used to it, and the benefits far outweigh the negatives (it's weird). I also got a nasal steroid shot in my rump a few weeks ago when I got a nasty sinus infection. I felt almost instantly better- I'm considering getting one every few months from here on out since my insurance pays for it. Hope this helps.
Doesn't one Zyrtec last 24 hrs? Seems like you are taking a double dose, twice a day. I highly doubt a doctor would recommend all of this.
Not a double dose twice a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon (2 total), maybe I was unclear with my post I was only taking one a day but he said I could take 2 And now that I think about it, I wasn't taking Claratin anymore
I pop one at night before bed and one in the morning. I ran this by my doctor and she does the exact same thing.
It's worse in Dallas...I remember reading a while back that Tusla, OK was worst, then Dallas second... I ran the other day and was hacking/sneezing for a couple of days...finally broke down and took a claratin... When I lived in Houston, I never had allergies...I always thought the pollution kept that crap out...
