I think the line of thinking was that they needed a complementary utility jack of all trades type player like Rodney to go along with Ralph instead of a slasher like Clyde; and I think there were probably (unfounded) questions about Clyde's J back then. At least they got it right with Hakeem the next year!;)

Patterson should have gone to Vegas to make a living.

Did he win coin flips for Alcindor, Sampson and Jabbar?

Otis Thorpe: It gave me joy watching him slam with one hand and those outlet passes.

Purvis Short: I enjoyed watching his rainbow shots.

Mitchell Wiggins: I enjoyed very much his offense rebounds and a put back from a 6'5" guard.

Matt Bullard: Boy, I enjoyed watching him sink those 3 pointers.

Vernon Maxwell: I enjoyed very much watching his buzzer beater bombs.

Robert Reid has got to be on this list. Clutch, tough defender, and versatile. Was effective as a 1,2, or 3.

Plus, nobody seems to remember that his late three pointer gave the rockets the chance to win on Sampson's turnaround.

He was really lucky if he won coin flips for Alcindor and Jabbar, like finding a time machine lucky.

    I would say:

    Price
    Mobley
    Bullard
Barkley (as a Rocket by Rocket fans)
    Cato

That would make him H. G. Wells or someting.

I meant Alcindor, Sampson, and Olajuwon. I've been away from Houston for over 25 years so I have no feel for when these front-office people come and/or go....

Robert Reid, Otis Thorpe and Craig Ehlo never seemed to get much respect outside Houston. And Ehlo, well, he never got respect IN Houston.

Patterson won the flip for Alcindor, but not for Jabbar. Dream too.

Of course Alcindor and Jabbar are the same guy despite my initial misleading post.

How could he have won the coin flip for Alcindor and for Olajuwon and NOT won it for Sampson who came to the Rockets inbetween those two entering the league?

C - Kunnert, and this is just because it's tough to find a Rockets center who wasn't deservingly rated high and didn't totally suck. I don't think Kunnert was all that underrated. He just simply wasn't that great.

    PF - Othis Thorpe, unquestionably!
Just refreshed my memory by looking at his career stats with Houston. Over 7 years with the Rockets he only missed 10 games averaged 15.79 points per game and 9.67 rebounds per game. I want an Otis Thorpe clone on this team right now!

    SF - Rodney McCray

    SG - Vernon Maxwell

    PG - SLEEPY!

Not only did OT give it his all night in and night out, he was a monster in the paint. He never back away from anyone.

almost all the power forwards of the rocs are underrated. otis thorpe and kenny thomas never had the respect they deserve for the hardwork they dedicated inside the paint.

    RF85 and D.C.,

Glad to see yall giving Sleepy and Ralph some love.

I am especially a big Ralph guy. People dog him, because there is no doubt that injuries ruined his career.

    Mc Cray.
People just don't appreciate him. He played Bird the best any one could. Did all the dirty work, defense, rebound ... You don't need everyone on your team to be an all-star, you need role player like Mc Cray.

I am Drexler's fan and an ex-Cougar but I must say when McCray and Clyde came out of college, Mc Cray was the better choice. All Clyde could do back then was dunk. As bad as Mc Cray's shooting was, Clyde was worse. He only developed his game in Portland.

You have been hanging out with Mo a little too long. RodBRICK Rhodes?!?!?! Are you KIDDING me?!?!?! The best thing that guy ever did for the Rockets was become the reason we did not aquire Damon Stoudamire (but then again, he could have hung out with you and Mo) .

Sure but not the third overall pck in a decent draft?

BTW, it seems to me that the Rockets had a chance to reacquire OT a couple years after dispatching him. Did he and Rudy or CD have some kind of falling out?

first of all, thorpe got plenty of respect when we had him.

second of all, put Kenny Thomas at the top of that list. averaging close to a double double, hustling, playing smart, and being capable of defending any position on the court apparently isn't good enough to make it on this team.
