"Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves". No, not for the wussy Bryan Adams song. For the rest of it, including the orchestral part.
"Xanadu" is a great pick, ima. I will also say that I really enjoy the "Streets of Fire" soundtrack, mainly because of the Jim Steinman-written songs ("Nowhere Fast" and "Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young"). If you are a fan of Meat Loaf, especially the Bat Out of Hell albums as well as Bonnie Tyler stuff, you need to pick up this album. "Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young" is an incredible song that only Jim Steinman could write. Unfortunately, this soundtrack is mainly known for the ultra-cheesy Dan Hartman hit, "I Can Dream About You".
Man, I forgot about "Blade Runner" by Vangelis! Not really the official soundtrack, IIRC, this album was released after the movie had been released but with many of the key themes from the original. It is my favorite Vangelis album ever (and I have like 10 of his albums). And even though it was out on the streets for a little while, the classical music pieces that were featured in "The Shining" are some of my favorite avant-garde stuff to listen to, especially Ligeti's "Lontano" and the Penderecki stuff (such as "The Nature of Sound" and "Jacob's Dream").
I used to go to this massage therapist and she ALWAYS played the music from that soundtrack. If I heard it again, I bet I'd know it note for note because I spent 8 months rehabbing a back injury there (twice a week usually) and every freakin' time - Robin Hood score. I love everything Thomas Newman has done - from the theme for Six Feet Under to American Beauty going all the way back to Real Genius. He's the nephew of Randy Newman.
"A Hard Days Night" 1. Hard Day's Night 2. I Should Have Known Better 3. If I Fell 4. I'm Happy Just to Dance With You 5. And I Love Her 6. Tell Me Why 7. Can't Buy Me Love 8. Any Time at All 9. I'll Cry Instead 10. Things We Said Today 11. When I Get Home 12. You Can't Do That 13. I'll Be Back
LOL. You mean Young Guns II. I've had the tape for years but for whatever reason never listened to anything other than "Blaze of Glory."
Favorite dramatic score (per Jeff's distinction): The Empire Strikes Back Dances with Wolves Out of Africa Raiders of the Lost Ark E.T. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Braveheart Return of the King Raiders of the Lost Ark Magnolia Schindler's List Superman (best part isn't the usual tune they overplay, but the mythic, epic "Planet Krypton theme" that's played toward the beginning. Goosebumps every time.)
wow I thought I was the only one who bought that soundtrack ....its one of my faves though the Russian singing is very cool .....especially the song that plays at the end of the movie
