giddy, You are right about Briscoe and Gilliam. I can't believe I forgot about them! Harris was the first black starting QB in the NFL for an entire season. I don't think Gilliam ever was a starter for an entire season. Briscoe was the first black starting QB, but that was in the AFL with the Broncos and I'm not sure if that was for the entire season.
I recall that Gilliam alternated with Terry Hanratty. Briscoe was primarily a change of pace QB with the occasional start. Harris was very good; I think he is an executive with the Jaguars now.
