It's not that difficult to sign a couple of Pete Munro-like journeymen every year to go back and forth between AAA and the majors if you have injuries to your starting rotation. And the reality is that a Munro-like performance is the best you can reasonably expect from a Buchholz or Nieve anyway in their first season or two. The only rookie pitchers who come in and dominate are the elite prospects such as Oswalt, and I don't think any of ours are in that class.
I think the Mike Stanton thing is off because i went to the game last night and guess who was the catcher for the seremonial first pitch(es)? Mike Gallo, that tells me the Astros went to the minors to get the lefty they wanted. I don't think they want two lefties in the pen.
Actually Gallo made it into the game and gave up 1 ER in 1/3 of an inning. Defeinitely not the outing he was looking for. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Stros go after another lefty for the pen.
Sorry, the level of dumbass thread creation is getting to epic proportions. Go take a look at pretty much every forum, especially the GARM. There are about 20 differnt threads on the same topic and now its spreading to TAC. How many times do we need to hear about Dunn? There are two other threads devoted to Dunn (not including this one) that isnt on our team yet. FoxSports: Dunn to Houston? Dunn to Houston almost done? We also have two threads devoted to Ausmus and his perpetual sucking... What do you do when Brad Ausmus bats? Ausmus as Astros Public Enemy #1? Astros in the ASG anyone??? All-Star Reserve 2b All-Star Selection Thread Neyer on Stros getting hosed Oswalt leads!! The official "Vote for Roy" thread Possible ASG opening for Ensberg? Sorry, I know this may be a little overboard but it seems like we have a million threads on the same crap over and over. It probably has more to do with me being so damn bored at work and me wanting to move back home but I guess its just a little irritating sometimes.
One of my two biggest problems with Astros management, is that they behave like a big club...until it's time to sign players. Then they show how limited they are, financially. That's stupid. The Randy Johnson and Beltran deals are exemplars of the foolishness. If you can sign them - great - but be damned sure you can first. Baseball playoffs are too much of a crap shoot to gamble away long-term future for short-term reward. That said - I think I'd probably do this deal. You get Dunn for a minimum of 2.5 years - and it's not like any of the prospects are can't miss anyway. If you were trading away an Oswalt, it'd be different.
That's a major factor for us getting Dunn. We don't have to worry about having to put up the most $$$ to keep Dunn when he becomes a free agent. He's a hometown boy that wants to play here. As long as we offer a respectible contract that's close to what other teams are offering I have a feeling he'll stay. We won't have to worry about getting Beltraned with Dunn.
How many times have the Astros made a move to counter Rockets offseason activity. I know the deadlines are close to each other but...
Why wouldn't they want 2 lefties in the pen? Every team wants lefties. Stanton is not that far removed from being one of the best set-up guys in the game. Maybe it was the whole pressure of New York thing. If he's healthy, I say give him a shot. If you're left handed and breathing, there is always a job for you in MLB.
man you guys are anal. it's a rumor and that is it. some of you might as well just wait until espn comes out with something instead of reading bulletin boards.
sounds good....lets just post every piece of crap that is posted on any random message board and make a thread about it.
Another factor to consider is that Bagwell's salary will most likely be coming off the books by then & we'll have the cash to resign Dunn to a lucrative long term contract. It'd sure be nice to have a smooth transition from Bagwell's power right straight into Dunn's power.
This just in! Psychodog is not really psycho. He's just a gloryhound looking to see his name in lights.
