If McGrady makes the all-star team this won't slightly sway management. They know as well as we do how stupid the voting is.

Also, if McGrady gets voted in he should absolutely decline the invitation.

Actually it is simple an assessment of the mindset of the poster I quoted. I never once assigned the statement quoted to the entire country.

Why? Becuase the All Star game is so important right? Haha...

First of all, as most things NBA the problem starts at the top. 1) Mcgrady is on the ballot 2)people vote for him. If the All Star game was anything but a popularity contest the league should have provisions for eligibility, production, or playing time. but they do not there's a lot of crying and backhanded hypocrisy on this thread

    1) The All Star game is an acknowledged popularity contest as a secondary consideration and a marketing tool as a primary consideration. Everyone on this board knows this. Logically Tmac is getting votes because he's popular with fans who vote. For Stern the system is working as designed, people are voting for Tracy Mcgrady because he is one of their favorites for whatever reason. Now all Stern needs is for all people who voted to tune in to watch their favorites that weekend.

    2) What if it wasn't Tmac who was getting these votes while sitting but it was Tim Duncan or Kobe? If this was 97 and Jordan had happened to have been hurt for the first half of the season you all are going to claim that you WOULDN'T have wanted to see Jordan All-Star weekend when he came back healthy? That's what these poor fools are doing with Tmac. They just want to see him play All Star weekend. Whether one can personally project that Tmac will come back at a level unworthy of the All Star game in 3 months is just that... projection. No one really knows what level his game is at... not in small part because Morey hasn't let him play to show how bad he does or does not suck at this point.

    3) Remarks about China are racist. And there have been a lot of them on this thread. But can one of you racists at least stand your ground and make a decent honest statement about your sentiment? Along the lines of the Chinese fan is ignorant about NBA basketball. Or Chinese dont have the integrity that white people have and they will skew votes. Or maybe something irrevelant about Tibet or government tanks? All these halfassed passive-aggressive comments about Chinese voters immediately followed by backtracking whenever it's challenged is weak. For the record I haven't seen one thing on this thread that substantiates that Tmac's votes are in bulk from China, if anything it shows that Tmac still has high name recognition and casual fans aren't really watching much NBA during football season and probably are voting for ALL the vote leaders (both worth and unworthy) and not just Tmac based on reputation instead of game to game performance

Sometimes I think the US political voters are more moronic than the NBA all-star voters. But that's for D&D forum.

Now that I know he is #2 in votes, I'm going to vote for him just for the purpose of hilarity at the NBA's expense

Tracy is getting votes, because of his reputation and past achievements as one of the top players in the league, previously. Also, it's a popularity contest where people want to see their favorite stars. He might be undeserving but fans want to see him in the game, apparently. His votes has some merit to them, unlike Obama.

Seriously man...what is your problem with Chinese fans? What makes u think that you are more knowledgable.

For starters, i agree with you on the fact that Tmac should not be in the ASG. But it is a fan voting system. So they vote for who ever they feel would be the most entertaining. NOT who they feel are the best players in the league. How does voting for tmac (you got to admit he is damn entertaining in the ASG) showing lack of basketball knowledge. It is not like they are voting for him as the MVP or player of the months...., it is the damn ASG for crying out loud...it is just a game of pure entertainment. Although I did not vote for tmac, but you have to admit watching tmac is a lot more fun then watching guys like Dwill. Although i would love to see shannon brown in the game...

Seriously man...stop being so bloody racist. Being a chinese fan does not equate to having no basketball knowledge.

Well Honestly, I'd Rather Tracy play for the All-Star team than play for the Rockets. There always a bright side. Let him showcase his skills there and declare himself ready then.

If McGrady gets invited he should do the classy thing and decline so that another deserving up-and-comer can have his chance to shine and be rewarded for his hard work.

The classy thing? The classy thing is to honor what the majority want and to participate.

What is with the deserving up and comer comment? The All-Star game for the first 3 quarter is a joke. It is fun, it is PURE ENTERTAINMENT!

How is it classy to play in an all star game when you haven't even laced up a shoe yet?

He would be taking a roster spot from someone who has proven themselves this year, possibly for the first time. Let somebody else have a chance for crying out loud.

I dont see what the problem is....fans vote who they want to see play. Fans seem to want to see Tmac play. Its not like this is anything other than an exhibition game.

People say this forum went downhill when Yao was drafted and we got all the influx of Chinese fans.

Hardly - they make this forum great. How many other NBA teams have a whole other nation of a billion people coming into their forum to be Rockets fans.

I love how I've seen the passion for Yao transform to the passion to the Rockets.

Look at all the Chinese posters still posting and Yao is out for the season. They still follow the team.

They are true Rockets fans. There is no more YOF.

The fans vote. The vote for who they want to see. The game is for the fans. If they want Tracy to play, it is not honorable to not play. The right thing to do is to RESPECT their votes.

It is as simple as that. I'm sick of morons like you finding and creating reasons to hate on Tracy McGrady.

Honestly, as the Dreamshake observed, is T-Mac being second really that much worse than say, AI being a starter last year in the All-Star game? I hardly would vote for T-Mac myself, but I don't find it really that big of a deal, particularly with the implied racism behind it.

    Eff the fans.

Make being an "all-star" mean something again.
