http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4731829 Injured McGrady on pace to start Comment Email Print Share Associated Press NEW YORK -- Kobe Bryant is the leading vote-getter for the NBA All-Star Game and Tracy McGrady is on track to join him in the Western Conference backcourt despite not playing yet this season. Bryant had more than 692,000 votes in the first set of returns announced Thursday, about 20,000 more than East leader Dwyane Wade. Also on track to start for the West in the Feb. 14 game are NBA leading scorer Carmelo Anthony and Dirk Nowitzki at forward and Amare Stoudemire at center. McGrady is nearing a return from microfracture knee surgery. LeBron James and Kevin Garnett lead at the East forward position. Dwight Howard has a huge advantage over Shaquille O'Neal, and his Orlando Magic teammate Vince Carter is second among guards. Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press
Much ado about nothing. Stern will bump up the 3rd leading vote getter for the guard position if this continues to the end of voting. Simple as that.
reputation for the win lol. i dont think we should blame this all on the chinese fans. I bet a lot of the votes come from voters who only looks for star power and have no idea what's going on in the NBA. They are probably like, "o Kobe for sure..and i dont care who else is on there so im just going to choose another superstar..Hey look tmac, havent seen him for quite a while, but 13 in 35, have to put him in there.."
I haven't voted for the all-star game in 2 seasons. I think the light bulb went in my head when I tried voting at the arena and Rockets people were encouraging fans to vote for all the Rockets in the ballet regardless if they deserved it or not. All for a free gift. I couldn't bring myself to vote like that. I was like sorry Scola, I luv you, but I am not voting you over Duncan for starting forward. Or Alston over CP3. I understand where they are coming from but I think it cheapens the vote.
If it stays this way the Rockets might be forced to play him some....the last thing they would want is for them to be sitting him while he is trying to get better, him get voted in, and then play........and play well. It would make them look bad... DD
That's what i wanted. Vote him for the all-star, then trade him for another all-star. Morey are you listening?
McGrady gets voted into the game, scores 62 points, and then gets traded the day after for the Nets #1 pick and fillers
I voted for Tmac and all the Rockets guys. I would lol a lot if he got to the All-Star game, so to me he's worth choosing. Picked underdogs in the East.
The efforts have not been fruitless. The resolve to attain a higher standard will remain undeterred. But the ignorance is greater than us, people. It always has been.
Well, if there were negative votes, I am sure TMac would get well under zero votes just by votes from this board.
If it was just hardcore Chinese fans wouldn't they go ahead and vote or write-in for Yao too? Anyway, I agree with your sentiment, but I'm not surprised to see him get some votes. This isn't the first time a pro sports athlete gets a bunch of All-Star attention/votes. All a result of what is basically a (global) popularity contest designed to cater to "the fan". Ugh.
The Laker fans aren't a bright bunch when it comes to basketball...besides everyone knows that Yao doesn't have any worth competition out of West from the center spot (Bynum is included with those other bodies).
Also for T-Mac, can anyone really name any popular shooting guards in the West, except Kobe. People are going to start with the T-Mac isn't supposed to be there and the possible over stuffing of Chinese ballots, yet people didn't say one word when Grant Hill was often voted into the all-star game, even being injured or out for a period of game.
well, they would really deserve to look very bad in this case... but it's not gonna happen. mcgrady won't be an all star this year.
I think Its not just shooting guards but guards in general so that include Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Brandon Roy etc.....
