Not to stir the pot, ok totally stirring the pot. But Dana just said in the pregame show Brantley should be in the lineup Tuesday. Dusty v Dana this year.
I knew a guy from Houston who began his career in the late 70s with a construction job working on I-45 between Houston and Galveston. He retired after spending 40 years at that same unfinished job on I-45. It will never be completed.
It would be Monday, but we have the Dusty rule. Has to wait a day after he is ready. Brantley should never play against LH pitchers. Really nervous that his insertion into the lineup is going to cost Diaz.
I can't see Chas getting benched, per say. I could see him have a day off here and there, especially when JV starts and there is a RHP on the mound for the other team. That will likely be Yordan/Brantley share LF/DH and Dubin in CF. That means Diaz and Chas are likely benched. If JV starts vs a LHSP then Brantley would probably sit so Chas can play LF but Diaz probably sits during most of JVs starts due to the Dubon in CF idiocy.
The thing is... there's no reason for any of that in the first place. You don't bench your 4th best hitter for the year unless it is for a day off every other week.
I completely agree. And especially to play an inferior player because you claim it's to benefit the team. Just simply stupid. But that doesn't mean it won't happen.
Sale is pitching Monday. I expect Dana is keeping him on the IL until Tuesday. Even if Brantley is activated, I'd expect him to be on the bench today waiting for a PH opportunity.
I agree with this. This team has plenty of options vs LHSP so can field a lineup 1-9 that is .750+ OPS/ 100+ wRC+ vs LHSP. Of course Julks in not one of them but he will start in LF his final game before being sent to AAA and hit 7th between Abreu and Pena. Diaz will be benched for him which shouldn't happen but isn't the end of the world vs a LHP. Meyers should be playing if Dusty wants to sit Diaz. But Dusty isn't looking to get the best team on the field, he will be looking to give Julks a final send-off, as we won't see him again this year barring injury. vs. LHP Julks .620 OPS / 62 wRC+ Meyers .842 OPS / 134 wRC+ Diaz .567 OPS / 52 wRC+ Of course there is hope for Diaz, who is simply a young player needing playing time to adjust to LHP in MLB. .678 and 83 since July 1st
Julks is going to be a "September call up" as one of the two extra players... (I do miss allowing the full 40 in the old days)... I imagine the other slot goes to the pitcher of the day.
Why is he still on the roster? I guess they're waiting for Uncle Mike to make it back, but just cut Julks to keep Dusty from falling prey to the temptation of using Julks and bring Loperfido up. That guy can hit and play several different positions more than adequately from the little bit I've seen from him.
Jimy helped out Eric Bruntlett, Willy Taveras, and Mike Lamb being passable in the field. He would have been an ideal bench coach or minor league director during that era.
