This doesn't relate directly to the Rockets unfortunately. It's a credit to Van Gundy that we're the one of, if not the best defensive teams and we only got one player with any votes (Shane Battier). And Battier didn't make it by one point it looks like. It's too bad guys that play good team defense get the shaft. Then again, I guess Battier would have to beat the other forwards (Prince, KG, Duncan and Bowen) to have a shot. Kirk Hinrich though?! I had no clue he played D and now he's one of the best in the league! San Antonio Teammates Bowen and Duncan Top 2006-07 NBA All-Defensive Team Selections Posted Apr 30 2007 2:38PM Duncan, Bowen and Kidd Only Players Named to Last Seven NBA All-Defensive Teams NEW YORK, April 30, 2007 – Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs highlight the 2006-07 NBA All-Defensive Teams, the NBA announced today. Duncan leads all players with his 10th selection, while his teammate Bowen, the leading vote-getter, earns his seventh appearance. Also selected to the First Team is 2006-07 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets at center, his third such honor. Rounding out the First Team are guards Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, who earns his seventh selection, and Raja Bell of the Phoenix Suns, making his first appearance on an All-Defensive team. Bowen’s and Duncan’s defense helped the Spurs hold opponents to 90.1 ppg (first in NBA) and .433 from the field (third). San Antonio has finished in the top five in both categories in each of Duncan’s 10 seasons. Camby led the NBA in blocks (3.30 bpg) to go along with 11.7 rpg (tied for fourth in NBA). Bryant ranked 17th in steals with 1.44 per game, while Bell often matches up against the opposition’s best offensive player. The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of Chicago teammates Ben Wallace and Kirk Hinrich, New Jersey’s Jason Kidd, Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince and Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett. The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote. Is this a joke or what? In the Defensive player voting, guards like Artest, Gerald Wallace and Hinrich all have higher vote than kobe and Raja Bell, yet both of them are on defensive first team? Kobe has been great defender during shaq era because he can spend more energy on defensive end without carry the offense. But since shaq left, kobe's defense has been average because he spends more on offensive end yet he is voted 1st defensive team?
Jason Kidd? Ha ha ha, what year is this? What's the problem - did Steve Blake and Steve Nash turn it down? What a pile of sh-t list. Battier not being there is a joke.
Yup. Is it okay to not know some things? It can be a good quality as opposed to people who think they know everything. Where's the fun in omniscience?
Has Hinrich really been that good? I know he was a few years ago butfrom what I've heard he seemed to ahve dropped off a bit recently. The real outrage is of course Kidd's appearance on the squad. I mean, the guy could not guard a pregnant Sheryl Swoopes these days, and plays on absolutely awful defensive team.
Then you also have one of the top 5 defensive players in Marion not even on the team...who knew playing defense 3 seasons ago still counts?
Well if you don't know anything about a guy and readily admit that fact, why would you act like it's a travesty that he gets picked for an all-defensive team? To talk for the sake of talking? For example, you haven't ever seen me talking about Iguodala, because I've seen the guy play like 1 game in my entire freakin' life...
