Booyah, exactly. I don't understand why some of the posters here were saying that Brooks couldn't pass. In fact he's a great passer and some of his passes last night looked electric.
No, the trick is to give him the green light to penetrate. He's more than capable of kicking the ball to somebody after he breaks down defenses as he's shown all season.
That bounce pass to Barry through the lane on his backdoor cut was a thing of beauty and it had Hubie gushing. DD
Oh hell yes. He had a couple of those skipping bounce passes. Both he and Rafer had it going last night. Seemed like after Rafer's first 3 that he bricked REAL bad, anything he threw up was going in. Well, until he got thrown out, haha. I love how he doesn't back down, but we need him to not do that if that happens in the playoffs. In my opinion, it was just shoving though, shouldn't have been any ejections.
He can hit Yao, who's huge, with that bounce pass. That's pretty impressive. The kid's got real skills.
He is playing with a lot confidence lately unlike last season. Good to see he does not hesitate with his play anymore.
Oh me too, in fact gonna go do that in about 30 minutes at Lifetime fitness.... I always hit my teamates in the head with passes......one day they will catch on... DD
i'm excited about him, but i really think we're best served having him come off the bench. he's the absolute definition of instant offense, change-of-pace, and straight up energy. It's *tough* to find guys who can bring that for you off your bench every night consistently. When you have superstars who *should be* scoring pretty well, it'd be ideal to have a guy like Brooks coming off your bench on their off nights or just to have a guy with the 2nd unit who can create his own shot (at least with a simple pick). I'd be fine with his minutes going up, but I like him off the bench just like the Spurs like Ginobili off the bench (no, I'm not saying Brooks is as good as Ginobili.. not yet anyway)
btw, I like Aaron's vision, but some of his passes need to hit guys in the right spot. Rafer, for all his weaknesses, will generally hit everyone in the perfect spot for shooting. Brooks has a tendency to throw passes that short-hop a player, come up at his shins, etc... if a PG can get the ball to a shooter where the shooter likes it, it cuts down on "loading" time and gives the shooter better rhythm..
But Rafer never makes a high risk pass, he always passes on the perimeter....with the occasional exception like last night's over the shoulder pass to Chuck....if he did that more often...I would like him a lot more. DD
that's a good point. I guess I should give Aaron a break for making more difficult passes.. but I still want him to improve that accuracy. Hopefully it will come over time
Watch how well Brooks passes to Scola and Landry on the Pick and pop..then watch Rafer, he doesn't make that pass or set up his teamates. Most of Rafer's assists are either a dump it in to Yao or a pass on the perimeter to a teamate for a jumper. DD
AB game is getting better and better. He looked much more confident and it's a good thing. I hope he continues to be confident particularly during the playoffs (where the games are rough).
I agree, but they don't run the pick-and-pop with Rafer and Scola/Landry. The plays are run to players' strengths.. b/c AB has the ability to burn people off that pick, they'll run that play for him. When Rafer is in the game, they'll get TMac to run the pickandroll/pop since he is the more explosive player of the 2 guards. Rafer's "dump it in to Yao" and "pass on the perimeter for a jumper" are always timed right and placed very well.. at least better than anyone else on this team hits Yao in the post or TMac coming off a down-screen. (Though I will say they made a concerted effort last night to get Yao the ball at the right time, and Artest made some good entry passes)
