edit.. not saying passing is his biggest weapon, but it certainly isn't a weakness of his.......people are completely overblowing this "true pg" crap and it's starting to wear thin and get annoying.
i dunno about that, but he will surely be a huge upgrade from Reefer... when will the reefer madness end? I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel
So you're going off one game? I'm going off my eyeballs, from last year, through pre-season, up to now. Passing is not his strength. He plays better when he has the green light and doesn't have to worry about passing.
i think brooks' biggest advantage is his ability to come off the screen and pull up for the midrange jumper. if he hits that with regularity he'll be dangerous.
No gabage words, please. I'm also amazed with his great performances in recent games, but his assist number is really small for a PG. Maybe he's just a undersized SG but that's enough. He should be combined at backcourt with barry who can take the ast work.
Umm.......so let me get this straight... You're going off his rookie season, his first season in the NBA , where he barely played any damn minutes .......yeah that makes alot of sense. As far as this preseason and this year......he's only been one of our best playmakers regardless of what the "stat sheet" shows....the guy is/has been breaking down the defenses everytime he comes into the game. He has also shown the ability to make difficult passes and while they aren't showing up on the "STAT SHEET" (funny how that word keeps coming up) they will eventually........maybe when he gets free reign on this team and isn't 2nd fiddle to Rafer or splitting time with Barry at the point. Honestly I've seen this guy make more difficult and daring passes than Rafer......the passing skills are there. His problem is his decision making isn't fully developed, not lack of "passing skills".....for that definition y'all need to look at Luther Head. Who can't even pick up a basketball without tripping over himself. Anyway Brooks has "passing skills"......it's just that his point guard IQ/decision making just hasn't caught up with his physical/raw talents yet, due to the lack of experience......But for people to write this kid off as a legit passer right now when he's playing around players who can't hit the broad side of a freaking barn is just dumb....but hey, it's all about what shows up in the "stat sheet" right? I mean who gives a damn if our offense has flowed more fluid as soon as the kid takes the court........crap Rafer averages more assists (because his ass can't shoot worth a damn and always has to pass the ball to Yao or Tmac), but he's obviously playing better. The point is I'm tired of people talking about what Brooks' isn't instead of talking about what he is...(like how he's our most consistent player so far) or how people bad on him because he's "not a true pg"..(god I'm really getting tired of that)..who gives a crap. The guy on most nights is our reason for winning the damn game and he's only in his second year. Y'all need to lighten up and let the kid learn.
I think you're splitting hairs. "Passing skills" is a shorthand that is understood to include decision making/bbIQ. It has turned out to be huge for us so far that Brooks has by all indications been given the green light to score. Otherwise we'd see him continue to dribble to nowhere, passing to nobody in particular like before, things that have everything to do with decision making, IQ, and yes passing skills. When all he has to do is look to get his, he has pleasantly exceeded expectations and given us a huge boost. The few times this year he has tried to be a playmaker, he looks lost, a fish out of water. I think the right approach is what we're doing, just let him worry about scoring first.
Do you watch the premier PGs in this league or what.........because their "passing skills" start with them "trying to get theirs" or atleast acting like it.....CP3 straight dominates the ball........so did SF3 when he was here. Aaron usually plays in a lineup where he's with the backups and Barry or maybe Artest......Artest actually brought the damn ball up the court most of the time. Stick this kid around some shooters and give him confidence of a starter and you'll see his "stat/assist numbers" shoot up......right now as the #1 bench player he's just being asked to be a scorer, just as the firt guy off the bench should be....but the passes are there and I see them.....he's a legit PG in this league. Look at how much progress the kid made in one year after just sitting on the bench......theres no reason why he won't make progress next year.
You should be rookiefied for this post...no..take that back...clownified........ We don't need our PG to score? Hmmmm....really? So, when the other teams leave our PG wide open, he doesn't need to score? Everyone on the floor needs to be a threat to score, I don't care if Yao scores, Tmac scores, Artest...Brooks, Rafer...WHOMEVER.......just score the ball. And there are TONS of scoring PGs in the league, CP3, Dwill, Nash, Parker..... Dang dude, that is one of the worst thought out posts I have ever read. SHEESH ! DD
I think alston and brooks will work how Duhon and Gordon played of each other. In Chicago Duhon started but Gordon finished. Duhon was the better defender but Gordon as we all know had the better offensive game. Im not saying Aaron Brooks is as good as Ben Gordon but I think that type of rotation could work for us.
May AB can pass maybe not, this kid is special! His speed and knack around the basket is no less to that of Tony Parker at this early stage in his career. And he can shoot the 3's better too. He just needs to develop a little bit more experience, and play with more consistency.
He could of had a few assist, but people didn't shoot when he passed it to them and they were wide open. Also, even though he didn't have any assist he still moved the ball around which created for other players.
He's awesome coming off the bench. He is perfect with the 2nd unit. He can not coexist with Yao or Tracy on the floor. Just take a look at the end of the game last night. Many possessions, the shot clock basically dwindled down to 9-8 seconds, and Brooks would have to PnR to a shot. No bueno. The offensive production was outstanding by him, but the one offensive rebound he got in the paint and the block was crazy!
