i wouldn't be too sure about that. if pride plays a part deke might have been offended by les's recent comments.

you can thank SF3 for ripping les off the past two years and keeping him from spending that money on a player that can at least practice and occasionally play some defense.

Question: Is the rockets center Yao Ming injury prone? And how tall is the next center behind Yao and can anyone of Yao's backups blockshots and rebound any better than Deke?

The Celtics are killing the league with only one guy not named Kevin Garnett who is over 6'9" in the playing rotation and that is 6'10" Kendrick Perkins who isn't exactly a long, athletic defender.

If we sign him, I'd like to see him play 10 min a game or so. If we are going to sign him just for Yao insurance, then dont bother.

KG is an extremely durable player. If the Celtics weren't blowing out teams he could play 40mins every night.

    THIS POST IS FLAWED.

No way does Tracy attack the basket in crunch time. He'd just settle for a 22.5 foot fadeaway.

barry was signed before the ron trade. we needed size on the wing. hayes and head are worth more to us than to any other team in the league. they have little to no trade appeal. they definitely wont bring in a productive center.

francis can still be traded for a backup center. his ending contract might be worth something in about a month or so. however, the team wants to keep flexibility in 2010.

so they are stuck. i'd offer deke whatever he wants to return at this point. and i love your picks of FA's that we could've should've would've signed. good choices.

it actually does add up. i wrote this in an another post, but to paraphrase, i said les is about #30th in overall league owner wealth. if the rockets were owned by cuban, allen, or dolan, i would say les is cheap. but in reality, les is one of the least richest owners meaning paying a luxury tax than penalizes a 100% for every dollar over the cap, it is understandable that he doesn't want to pay for a piece that won't take us "over the top".

and it's not like les hasn't been willing to spend on high-priced players if they're great. tmac, artest, barkley, etc.

smmoothie- yaowent down 2yrs in row and for 30 games. The number 1 priority shouldve been a backup center. They just drafted greene as a big wing. A backup wing shouldn't have come before size behind yao. Elson . anderson, ratlifff were alllll there.

Last year the thinking was maintaining a good locker room, so Chris Andersen wasnt a serious consideration. But then they got Artest later...

To me the biggest puzzler of those Rockets mentioned is Luther Head. At least there was some line of thinking behind acquiring Barry & Francis, & keeping Hayes as a cheap 10th man specialist. Head not trying to kick him off the team, but he's simply been the definition of expendable playing himself off a team. Worse than Hayes' lack of offense & Francis dribblemania imho... If they were gonna deal Head & Francis, a Brent Barry type in their place makes sense.

Malik Allen is a scrub. Mbenge, No GM would sign him over Brent Barry even if they had NO center. Elson & Andersen would have been solid. But agree, look in the scrap heap for some size in the middle. Anything better than Loren Woods is acceptable.

Perkins may not be a 7 footer, but he is surely not small. He has big bulk and great strength and he blocks 2 shots a game in 29 mins. That was how he abused Lakers interior last year. We don't anyone close to that besides Yao.

IMO if Warkenstein didn't hold a job with the Nuggets Anderson wouldn't be in the NBA.

Williams is in the dog house because he sucks, nothing else. I live in Jersey and follow the Nets. He picks up fouls like crazy. He actually lost his rotation spot to Stromile Swift, and didn't get it back even after Swift got hurt again.

You know, this may well be posturing. Dikembe and his agent were making noise earlier in the season about wanting more than the minimum. I am thinking that Les and Morey want him, but don't want to spend that much money... so they are (1) crying poor, (2) drawing the luxury tax line, and (3) acting like they don't really feel like they need him.

Sort of the same tactics they took on Landry, no?

The difference, of course, is that Rockets don't have matching rights on Dikembe... I think Morey and Les are counting on Dikembe emotionally wanting to be back with this team, rather than another team-- and that all his recent talk about considering other teams was only posturing on Dikembe's part.
