As dissapointing as this is right now, atleast we didn't learn this week that our own superstar hated us and wanted out like two other franchises did.

I mean Jesus Christ, Otis Smith is the most incompetent GM I have ever seen.

Call me crazy but I love that the trade fell through. The first iteration of the trade was "meh", but I was starting to warm up to it because of the flexibility we will be getting. But the 2nd version? The one where we get the same thing but give up EVEN MORE? C'mon man, Dragic, Kmart, Scola, Lee and/or Patterson isn't worth getting just Gasol back, with or without Nene.

We can have better deals in the mid-season, when a lot of team would be looking to clear salary for next year. Who knows, DH might even be available for that kind of assets.

You never know what else Morey had in plan.

This trade was brilliant and losing Patterson and Dragic, while a bitter pill to swallow, would not be that bad.

Agreed. We have been poised to make a splash for a while with trade assets and cap flexibility and managed to stay somewhat competitive through most of that time. That we haven't made that splash yet is really just bad luck. Eventually Morey will pull it off though - probably sooner rather than later because the odds are low that we will continue to just miss out on big deals.

...as far as I'm concerned, Houston is every bit as well run as OKA & San Antonio (LA too, but they have an advantage by virtue of being "LA") - they just haven't had the good fortune of having a future hall of famer sitting there in the draft for them. Durant could be one of the highest scoring players ever and Duncan is possibly the greatest PF ever. Those types of players are very rare so even tanking every season for an entire decade doesn't necessarily land you a player of that caliber.

I couldn't agree more CH. It's disheartening, knowing how much work Morey and the staff worked to get that trade completed.

I was torn in the beginning on whether I wanted to see the trade or not. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. Morey obviously had another deal or two that would have made the Gasol deal look sweeter. So after I really thought about it, the more I liked it. I really didn't want to give up Bud, PatPat, Morris or Lee as what was reported being a possibility. Losing more young talent would have made it sting more, Still I would have accepted it.

Look, I love Scola just as much as the next fan, but the Rockets need real change. For those of you guys that want to stay mediocre and not at least take real chances at getting better, I just don't get it. This team needs a shake up, I think it will still happen this year. I think after this mess, Les, Morey and company will be very determined to make it happen.

So to the orginization, yeah, you deserve a big thank you from me. I see you working.

I'm sorry but I cannot appreciate them for what they were trying to do here. Let's sum up:
    1) We would've helped LA to become #1 for the next few years
    2) We would've helped NO to be still a force instead of rebuilding
    3) We would've given away two of our top scorers, who are not happy (despite what they may say) and probably want out asap
    4) We would've given away our draft pick
    5) We would've gotten an old ass spaniard at center what still didn't give us an intimidator & shot blocker that we needed + didn't want to come here

So here's my non-appreciation for this trade, which in hindsight should not have been suprising because Alexander likes these big names.

Those saying you didn't like what they were doing with the trade can't complain about it... you have no idea what the intended outcome would have been

There was more than just this one trade up their sleeves and I do think there would have been other moves than just signing Nene to complete the roster (Chuck possibly being one).

I do hope that Morey and all the people on the team that worked the phones, emails and such all go home, sleep for at least 10 hours (cause I'm sure they haven't been getting that much) and hug each member their families.

I do think at this point, they may take the "suck this year and get better next year with a lotto pick" because Scola may do his best, but it's likely not going to be enough.

Who knows maybe McHale will work magic on Thabeet and Hill and all will be well - but I won't hold my breath.

At least they are trying and I can see the logic of the moves they try... with other teams GMs there isn't always that luxury

It's going to be a looong 66 game season

There's a large contingent of posters here who would be dissatisfied with any outcome that doesn't involve us trading all of our established players for draft picks and running out an NBDL-quality roster for 66 games. What are you gonna do?

I feel bad for Morey. All those trades he's been doing over the past couple of seasons was supposed to finally culminate into something this offseason. He spent months working out a trade to bring in a big fish and potentially another through free agency, then in just one quick, idiotic, unprecedented, selfish decision, it all went away. He has got to be sitting somewhere pulling his hair out after having to deal with such a high maintenance drama queen in David Stern.

    1. Is that for certain? As far as I know, the last super team that was formed just got creamed by Dirck and the Mavs.

    2. It doesnt matter. Had we gotten Gasol and Nene, we'd be better than them.

    3. We get, what? Two legit big men and forming the best front court in the W3st. Size is important. Look at the Lakers and how they won their last 2 championships.

    4. Small price to pay to be relevant and competitive again

    5. Pau is playing the best basketball of his career. and wtf? Scola is frickin older than Pau. As far as Pau not wanting to come here, who would want to move from LA to Texas? LA is possibly the 2nd best city for basketball next to NY. We should atleast give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's going to be professional about it.

I agree with CH as well. I love the fact that our FO is working hard to make us a better team. I also think it's tough to judge the proposed trade as all the info wasn't made public nor do we know if other plans were in place.

On a side note, David Stern should be fired (if that were possible). As the commissioner of the NBA, you aren't supposed to favor one team. You have a GM that is supposed to look out for said teams best interests. I find Stern's action ludicrous. Again, whether or not you liked the trade, his actions are inexcusable.

I am a strong supporter but I guess he is growing to love the life without the NBA.

sorry Carl, but the anticipated "The big move is yet to come"..."Just wait and see" bs has gotten old. Every move has been contradictory. They are terrible.

    Flame on boys.

It was supposed to culminate into something long ago....there is no big fish that wants to come , or have to deal with HIM especially.

Les and especially Morey have done a very poor job, and anybody who's able to see past our team and look at the talent on other teams knows this. I truly believe Morey's track record of treating his players like "assets" is a huge reason why nobody wants to come here.
