After a decade of terrible job performance and now being treated bad by his ex-wife, Alec's response is understandable. Not justifiable, but understandable.
Didn't he just win a Golden Globe? I think it says more about the mother that she would leak something like this. I'm not defending what Baldwin did at all, but why would a mother want to have something like this out in public?
I honestly didn't this would stir up any controversy. As surprised as I am that there are people out there who think this is normal (if unfortunate) behavior by parents, I'm more surprised (shocked even) that anyone would think this is ok. I don't know if I've ever spoken to another adult this way, let alone a child.

I'm divorced and my kids live with their mother. In the not too distant past my daughter (age 6) has on several occasions under minded my authority. She can at times be a spoiled brat. Fo realz. I don't put up with her **** like her mother does. It isn't happening at my house. Perfect example. She had a soccer game at 8:30 in the morning on a Saturday. We get up pretty early to get ready because the soccer game is over by her mom's house. Everyone is getting ready and Kalissa is in her room crying because she can't put her socks on. She wants me to put her socks on her. Uh, negative. You're 6 freaking years old, put your own damn socks and shoes on. She lets everyone know that she can't do it by whining and crying non stop. Finally after 15 minutes, I go back in there and yell at her to get her **** on. I tell her that if she doesn't have them on in 5 minutes, we aren't going. After another 10 minutes, she still doesn't have them on and at this point my patience in gone. When I go in there, she is on the phone with her mom tattling on me. Daddy loses it and I completely blow it out of my ass. Now mind you, this is NOT the first time this **** has happened. Not in the least. She is playing me against her mom and she knows it. So now we aren't going and I'm getting a call from her mom asking why I'm not helping with the socks and shoes. Now not only do I have to put up with my daughters ****, I have to put up with my ex-wifes **** as well. Also I'm a bad father because I won't take my baby girl to her soccer game. So while I don't entirely know the situation with Alec and his kids or his ex wife, I can completely sympathize with the situation. There are times when kids need to be put in their place and while some people may not think that yelling at them is appropriate, some do. It's better than beating your kid. I haven't spanked my kids in over 3 years and never plan on doing it again. I don't believe in it anymore. But I'll sure chew their ass out if they need it because sometimes they do. Kalissa needed it then and I'm sure she will again. Just like Chris Rock said about OJ, I'm not saying he should of done it, but I understand. Oh, and my 9 year old has a cell phone that I bought for him. It's a kid phone that only allows incoming and outgoing calls that I deem appropriate. There were times that I couldn't get a hold of my kids when they were at their moms and I want access to them at all times and I also want them to have access to me at all times. It is a safety precaution. edit: Oh, just thought I'd add this. In less than a minute after I said we weren't going to the soccer game, she had her socks and shoes on. Amazing how incredibly quick she learned to do it once we weren't going.
For the Record NO ONE . . i don't think . . . agrees with BEATING you child but Spankings and BEATINGS are two completely different things If you cannot distinguish that. . .well nothing I can say to you will matter Stern Talking and Forceful Language, like spankings are tools to raise you kids If my kid is sticking a hair pin in a light socked that is a spanking . .slapped hand and a stern talking too .. . CAUSE IT CAN KILL HIM AND HE NEEDS TO KNOW THAT NOPE NEVER NOT AT ALL DO YOU DO THAT!! When he is older. . .I will explain further. . but trying to explain electricity and death to a 3 yr old calmly . . . well it is interesting I raise my voice. . I don't spank him often because he knows my expectations well placed and well done spankings at age 1-6 means almost none from 7-up Rocket River
I was b****-slapped by my Dad when I was 15. He feels so bad about it that he doesn't even remember it. Want to know what I remember about it? That I absolutely deserved it.
Thank you for sharing that story I personally think you did the right thing and seem to be a good father Correcting and guiding behavior is what good parents do kids need to know their limits and what is expected of them. They will test you and test you and test you until they putting you into the nursing home *grin* Rocket River
There are many ways to affectively manage children's behaviour that does not involve screaming and/or swearing. Tomorrow morning I will wake up 6 kids in a crisis shelter from families where the parent (usually mother) is too stressed to deal with them anymore. These kids will get up and get dressed (by themselves if they are old enough), sit down for a meal without fighting, and they and I will have a great, fun day. Many of these kids know how to manipulate and whine to get their way - it won't work and they will test me but one thing I can guarantee is that I will not raise my voice (speak firmly but not yell). Screaming at a child is never appropriated --- swearing at a child is never appropriate.
well every person losses their temper and especially if they are going through a stressful time and if their child is being disrespectful. appropriate, maybe not. but hardly anything to think less of someone b/c we have all lost our tempers. At least he was losing his temper b/c his daughter was being a little B, rather than yelling at some guy in the car in front of you. again, if thats the worst that girl gets...she's got it easy
Yes -- I have a grown daughter. She absolutely frustrated and angered me at times. But I never swore or screamed at her -- and now she's the same way. There is allways an option to swearing or screaming that can handle the situation appropriately.
I really had no idea that parenting was so black and white. I think me and the Mrs. may start trying tonight!
