So Murray thinks this team is sufficiently stacked at this time, acquire bunch of picks, and then go HARD in February?
Also, Feigen tweeted to look out for a 3 team deal. It's also been out there that the 76ers want Waiters, just not sure what we'd get out of it
We don't actually know that the Rockets are going after Varejao though. The first thing you should ask yourself anytime stuff like this comes out is who has the motivation to put it out there. Since the Cavs already have denied interest in Asik shortly after this came out, I'm guessing the Cavs are also the ones who leaked this. Get Varejao's name out there.... try to set a value by bringing Asik into the mix.... deny any interest in Asik... hope the Rockets get a good deal for Asik and then use the fact that the Rockets may have been interested in trading Asik for Varejao in Varejao trade negotiations.
Varejao is underrated, he is like a taller chuck Hayes, ie a defense/rebound specialist who prides himself on getting under the skin of his assignment and disrupting their focus. Go look at the smile on his face when baited Blake griffin into tackling him a few days ago lol. That's the kind of player he is. Reminds me of beverley somewhat, but with more emphasis on being pesky and annoying. As far as fit goes, I think it is solid. Defense at the four has been a problem, as has defensive rebounding. He would help in both these areas. Jones just isn't ready. He has some nice games but he is still a weaknesses that will be exploited when we face great teams. Varejao can also play minutes at the backup center better than jones, which is is a bonus. His health is a concern, but it's not like Asik is contributing anything at the moment. If you can nab Varejao + anything of value, that is a win.
Fortunately Morey has a contingency on the Varejao trade that im sure we all can agree with. getting that mop to the shop. Ive been a Rockets fan for 20 years I will not watch Varejao run up and down the court.
Varejao is also the more injured Chuck Hayes. He missed 2/3 of the games over the last 3 seasons. What good is a guy when he is sitting in a suit?
That is a valid criticism, but if your goal is make a trade by the 19th., this isn't the worst idea it has some upside as far as fit/production. And this isn't really a long term move, this is a stop gap until 2015 when the final piece becomes available. We really don't have a ton of options.
Keep in mind the players they get by next week can be moved in 2 months, so it might be best to get the best players and not necessarily the best fit for trade value purposes.
this is how much Anderson Varejao sucks.. i really don't want to see him as a Rocket. scroll to 2:42... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3ZwMjtBr4PE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
that's worse that this happened 6 yrs ago. he's going to be the oldest player we have, coming off some bad injuries. do you really want this guy on your team? i don't think he belongs on the starting line-up of any contending team.
To get a true sense of Varejao you have to watch the Cavs/Clips game from last week. He grabbed like 20 rebs in 20 minutes. Blake Griffin was pouting due to Varejao's activity and got benched. He's missed a bunch of games since Lebron left but alot of that was the Cavs tanking and them quietly telling him to take a vacation for their draft slotting. Varejao plus a future 1st would be fine esp considering his contract is only partially guaranteed next season. His bobblehead night is this Friday so it would be interesting to see if the Cavs deal him this week.
No I think he would be the first big off the bench backing up Howard and TJ. That's what he's doing in Cleveland now behind Bynum and Tristan Thompson.
So we give away a starting C and take back a back up PF.... The Cavs are a terrible team to begin with... if we get him the only real advantage is the potential expiring.
