    With God on Our Side(1964)
    Bob Dylan

Oh my name it is nothin'
    My age it means less
    The country I come from
    Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
    The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
    Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
    They tell it so well
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians fell
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians died
    Oh the country was young
    With God on its side.

    Oh the Spanish-American
    War had its day
    And the Civil War too
    Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
    I's made to memorize
    With guns in their hands
    And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
    It closed out its fate
    The reason for fighting
    I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
    Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
    When God's on your side.

    When the Second World War
    Came to an end
    We forgave the Germans
    And we were friends
    Though they murdered six million
    In the ovens they fried
    The Germans now too
    Have God on their side.

    I've learned to hate Russians
    All through my whole life
    If another war starts
    It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
    To run and to hide
    And accept it all bravely
    With God on my side.

    But now we got weapons
    Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
    Then fire them we must
    One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
    And you never ask questions
    When God's on your side.

    In a many dark hour
    I've been thinkin' about this
    That Jesus Christ
    Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
    You'll have to decide
    Whether Judas Iscariot
    Had God on his side.

    So now as I'm leavin'
    I'm weary as Hell
    The confusion I'm feelin'
    Ain't no tongue can tell
    The words fill my head
    And fall to the floor
    If God's on our side
    He'll stop the next war.

Sammy Davis Jr. and Buddy Rich "Sounds Of 66"

It's live tracks from the Sands at a 4am show with the audience consisting of other entertainers from the strip. Amazing energy.

Well that is my guess on why bama said that too, but I have seen previous posts of his on what he likes musically, and outside of good taste in jazz, his other stuff he likes, is, um, not good.:p ;)

However, you got to consider what grunge was going up against back then...hair metal bands like Poison, Warrant, Skid Row, etc. Now I know TheFreak will beg to differ with me, but he is in the minority, however, those bands are the ONES that have not aged well over time. Not Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins.

Of course, this one is better than both of them.

Yeah Jackyl has aged much better than Nevermind.

    Albums that have aged well:

Every David Bowie album from "Hunky Dory," to "Scary Monsters." The best and most innovative sustained body of work since the Beatles. Nobody has touched him since. Except for Jackyl.

I'm only going pre-1980 and I'm judging on both quality of songs and production value...

    Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's
    Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
    Supertramp - Breakfast in America
    Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Steely Dan - Aja (I know engineers who still analyze their studios to this disc)
    Van Halen I

btw...some of the records chosen are less than 10 years old...they BETTER hold up today or they are just lame.

Aja is a great album that still sounds good. I named a dog Aja 'cause of that disc. :)
You're right about these "new" records... hell, they ought to hold up after a few years!

    Yes, Thriller definitely counts.

I also wanted to add some Aretha Franklin, and some Otis Redding. And also Ray Charles ... still sound amazing.

    I said it before :
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
The Misfits - Walk among us.

If any of you have never listened to Mingus , I highly recommend giving him a try. His music is truly awesome.

Just listened to for the first time today, "On the Corner" by Miles Davis. This album was one of the most, maybe THE most, controversial album he ever did. It is a fusion album that is very funky and is heavily influenced by James Brown and Sly Stone, but it also has some avant-garde influences in it like Karlheinz Stockhausen.

It was vilified at the time of its release, but I think it is an album that as time has gone by has been appreciated more and more. Not for everyone, though - however, if you are interested in Miles or fusion jazz, I would start with "In a Silent Way" and "b****es Brew" first and maybe pick up "A Tribute to Jack Johnson" before getting this album.
