When my dad and I drove home from school (Pennsylvania to Texas), he brought a couple of his cds along. I didn't want to hear them but a Cat Stevens cd and Simon and Garfunkle in New York City have caught my liking.

Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View
    No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
CCR - Chronicle vol. 1 (this isn't an old album, but instead a collection of songs from old albums)
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
    Dave Matthews Band - Crash
Counting Crows - August and Everything After

Most of these are from the early to mid nineties, so I don't know if that is old enough to be what this thread is looking for, but whatever.

This is worse than the day I found out the Beatles song Let it Be wasn't about the Blessed Mother's fiat. :(

Oh, and damn near anything from Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, the Temptations, and most of MoTown that I own. :D Lots of stuff from the 60's and 70's back when soul & R&B reigned!

I kind of disagree there. Abbey Road just doesn't do it for me. I prefer Revolver, or White album

I listen to the beatles way way way too much.

War by Bob Marley gets my blood rushing everytime.:D

Agree on the last two, but disagree (and I feel many others would as well) on the first 4.

Does Thriller count as way back when? Get over all the stigma's, and that album is still incredible.

let's see, Beastie Boys "Pauls Boutique" hasn't been mentioned on this board, that one is timeless, the end of the free sampling era.

also, any Zeppelin album, but I will throw out Led Zeppelin I for nostalgia: four great musicians playing heavy blues doesn't get any better for me.

my favorites are all clasics, so for me the list is Dylan, Marley, Floyd, and Zep, they all kick ass today

Queen - Sheer Heart Attack, A night at the Opera, Jazz, and News of the World
    AC/DC - Back in Black

Those are the only Classic Rock bands that I listen to. I'd add some Clash, Led Zep and Who, but I can't think of any of their CD's right now. Just use your imagination...

Grunge hasn't aged well I think is the better guess. All those record labels were trying to make as much money from grunge as they could, so they signed a bunch of bands that were just copies of another. (Silverchair, STP, and PJ all sound the same to me, althought Silverchair has changed a lot). The only bands that really stand out from the era are Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Soundgarden. I still listen to the Pumpkins, Nirvana not so much.

Funny, I started listening to Nirvana a few months after KC killed himself, took another year and a half until my friend and I realized he was dead... Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
