Strawman? No I am not trying to support voter suppression. Considering I have voted (D) 90% of the time, I would want as many black voters as possible because statistically they are more likely to support the candidates or at a minimum, the party I am more likely to vote for. I strongly believe that many Republican law makers see it as beneficial for their power. However this "argument" in the media was presented as if Alabama just decided to shut down all the black DMV's to ensure that black people don't vote. The reality is Alabama has a budget, they shut down the least used DMV's. These locations only serviced a tiny portion of the population. 4 locations service over 80% of the traffic. So, the state of Alabama is to keep the other locations open in perpetuity even though they service very few people on a day to day basis, because someone will scream racism? That argument is very flawed to me and not smart for the citizens of Alabama or the state budget. If you want to attack Alabama historically or if you want to attack them passing a voter ID law (like Sam did); I can agree with that. However the other is a sensationalistic story with little to no substance based on what is known at this point. Claiming I want to suppress voter turnout, when I am a (D) is sensationalist too. It isn't much different than another poster claiming you want to roll Lenin's body in front of Washington and open up a little Communist fiefdom.
You're just saying that if you need to make budget cuts, you don't have to think about the consequences. Alabama would save even more money if they just closed all the DMV offices. Why not do that? Oh, you're thinking about the consequences of such an action.
There are consequences to any and all cuts. They did consider the consequences, that is why they closed or limited the hours of the least used locations.
OK, so some people say "Disproportionate race impact: no big deal." Others say "Disproportionate race impact: big deal." I'm on the "big deal" side. Alabama was on the "no big deal" side, until the backtracked.
