how are you going to take away their resolve when you go into a country and kill innocent civilians? Especially when you kill someones relative. Seems like a horrible idea to "win"

It is, that is why it won't work, the only way to win that kind of war is to kill everyone.....

Being 3rd in command of Al Qaeda is like being the drummer for Spinal Tap.

Exactly, most posters here seem to reflect little knowledge about how terrorist groups structure themselves. The fact that people are still thinking in terms of #1, #3, etc. and whether it's relevant/necessary for Al Qaeda for Bin Laden to be alive shows why we suffered so many setbacks under the previous inept administration and its intelligence/war apparatus. Things are slowly changing now and more people within our intelligence community are analyzing this the right way now.

Wikipedia article further explaining what I'm talking about

Oh, and Chris Bosh is right. Al Qaeda has been dead for a while now. It's just one of hundreds of Islamic extremist groups that oppose our policies.

The effectiveness of the Surge in Iraq is evidence that your one step forward, two steps back theory is perhaps not accurate.

Whoop-de-do. The US military kills way more innocent people than some group of 'cavemen'.

If the war on terrorism is so ****ing important to you, go sign up for the military and kill some innocent women and children yourself. It's easy to be an armchair quarterback eating your cheese doodles when you're not seeing the carnage and human destruction you acquiesce to through ignorance and lack of empathy.

I hope this reduced terrorism in the world somehow. Sadly, everyone but Al Qaeda #1 is replaceable. Even #1 was replaceable, until the PR gave him irreplaceable status.

    Prayers for the victims.

I was watching a documentary over the weekend and they contend that Bin Laden is already dead. They say he choked on vomit. It was actually someone else's vomit, but they're not sure whose. I mean, you can't really dust for vomit.

I said it is not possible to win this way, and that we would not go "all in" to win.

The conversation was more about how to win a war, IMO, to truly win you have to be willing to whipe a people out, or at least their culture.......doesn't mean I think we should do it, do you see the difference?

To me there is no battlefield, and thus a waste of resources to even have the military there trying to be the police that is not what they are trained to do.

I am more in favor of a multinational hit squad than I am off this expensive war in both lives and money.

Yes, you have to wipe out a culture to win a war, no arguments here. It is no 'coincidence' that we did not go about it this way, with all the high tech global satellites and intelligence agencies we have it would have been no problem to track down the top guys, or at least keep them in enough paranoia to not cause too much trouble. They are so outmatched in terms of military force that it is naive to think they would ever attack us again, especially for our "freedom" (lol).

The wars in the Middle East were not designed to end, only to continue on into Pakistan and Syria. "War on terror" is a total farce and scam that only hurts the Middle East and the USA (as well as the rest of the world), and if you believe this, it's time to do something different.

These terrorist and especially their leaders are COWARDS. The hide behind human shields and claim we are killing innocent people when they made no such distinction on 9/11. The terrorist leaders brainwash young people to strap a bomb to their selves to kill innocent people yet the they hide in caves and behind innocent women and children. Radical Islam is a terrible religion. I know there are many peace loving Muslims in the world and I respect them. The peace loving Muslims are the ones who need to stand up and rid themselves of these radicals who brainwash so many young people to throw there life away for the radical Islamic terrorist groups!!!

One more thing people seem to forget. The reason we are over there trying to kill these people is because they attacked us first. Remember 9/11!!!!!!!!
