Better coach. Better 2015-16 season. Better cap and draft pick situation. Better recent and overall franchise history. And in a much weaker conference. Horford would be nutz to choose us over Boston.
We'll at least it should be obvious; even to Les at this point, that we've got to start the rebuilding process. Horford was really the only big time difference maker left on the market capable of attracting other FA talent. It's time to blow this thing up. Let the rebuilding commence! No Ryan Anderson please
Well now I know why they were going hard after Baze and now Johnson... Harden will Likely be gone soon and they gotta plan for the future at the SG spot.
Long-term, that would be the best thing that could happen for this franchise. We'd get a Top 5 and maybe Top 3 pick. We could use that to draft a potential future star or trade it for an established star. Assuming Harden hasn't already demanded a trade out of town before then, we'd have him, whatever we get with that pick, our cap space we didn't blow this summer, and additional space from next summer when the cap goes up again. Sacrifice one season for the future, Les. The Spurs did it in 1996-97 when it was clear they were going nowhere and it led to nearly 2 decades of dominance. While we almost certainly won't get that lucky, we could at least set ourselves up for a few years of contention or at least some playoff success.
Real talk, Houston (as a city) is at a disadvantage as a free agency destination. Especially if you're married (to miss universe no less)
Yeah I never bought the "Mike D'antoni will bring us Free agents because they can score a lot and get paid" Which type of FAs would want to join because of that? Chuckers who play no D, or underpaid role players who want to have a good season and then cash out. NOT stars and max guys. Not players who already gonna get paid and want stability.

I just don't see what makes us so attractive to a free agent in the NBA right now. The state income tax thing ain't that great given other franchises(Heat, Magic, Spurs, Mavs) have the same advantage. Cost of living is cheap, but given the money being handed out right now, nobody will spend even one second sweating that. We have a horrible roster outside of Harden who could bolt in 2 years. We have a coach whose last 2 stops ended in disaster. We have a GM who's loathed by many in the NBA. We have an owner who sounds like he hasn't watched an NBA game in 10 years. And we've won 3 playoff series in 19 seasons. I don't wanna go so far as to say the Rockets are where careers come to die, but we're closer to that end of the spectrum than being a place were players come to win championships.
This is the best time of the year to read all these posts in CF. After months of delusional denials, insisting : yeah we still have a top 5 player in the league and both Duarant and whoever the fork we wanted will come here. Instead, the tears in the 24 hours is more than all the rainfall we got this year. And now people started to say : fork this, we ain't gonna win 25 games this year? This is the best entertainment you can get, right here.
