Rocket River - Look at it this way. If you wanna play with numbers. (and I reiterate that I say this purely for the sake of defending this guys game, the Rockets have shown NO interest in him as an organization, so the point is mute in my opinion) If Harrington were playing 35.9 minutes, as Taylor did last season - and I'm not even taking into account the fact that Taylor took it upon himself to make the Clippers win last season, or the fact that Harrington was obviously not the focus in Indiana last season - we're talking a completely different story. By simple ratios, taking Harrington's 17 and turning it into 35.9, his statline is this: Points: 14 Rebounds: 6.8 Assists: 1.7 vs. Taylor last season Points: 17.1 Rebounds: 6.5 Assists: 1.6 Now tell me that's not respectable. Especially for a young kid that hasn't even begun to blossom yet. Of course, playing number games like this is completely bogus, there are so many intangibles to keep in mind. I state this purely in response to the numbers you gave. I agree that Taylor is the better player, but I would rather have Harrington any day than Walt, and since he's capable of playing the 3, it makes for worthwhile conversation in the least. Anyways, it's cool... just stating the facts... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain - [This message has been edited by DarkHorse (edited September 20, 2000).]
Funny, we could have just drafted Al Harrington at #16 instead of Bryce Drew, who has trade worth of roughly an average second round pick now. And for that matter we could have gotten Rashard at #18 instead of Mirsad the Turkey. Good work Rudy. Who will we regret for Collier in a couple years?? ------------------
Pippendagimp, put down the crack pipe please. Rudy is not perfect, and he has made his share of mistakes. Still, Rudy and CD are considered to be master evaluators of talent. You can not cite Rudy's mistakes without highlighting his successes- that is not fair. BTW, Collier is going to shock the heck out of everybody in my opinion. What can we say about a prospect who can shoot the 3, is 7 foot tall, and led the ACC in rebounding? That is tough. ------------------
I agree that there is no denying Rudy and CD have found many gems in the draft....it's just that when they don't, the mistakes look so obvious from the start and looking back seem so ridiculous and easily avoidable. One mistake (not necessarily draft related) that still hurts was their decision not to trade for Derek Harper before the deadline in '97, even though Harper had made it public he desparately wanted to join Houston. I still believe we would have beaten Utah that year and had a chance at the Bulls if Stockton hadn't been allowed to have a career series using Maloney on every single possession both offensively and defensively. I haven't seen much of Collier other than the RMR when he was allegedly hurt. I hope he has as much potential as you say he does. ------------------
