but its his money, i'm talking about that type of attitude, unless he has more than you? edit: al gore isn't an ordinary guy, just like you have more money than the average person (nothing wrong with that) I'm sure a lot of things you do would be considered wasteful by people who have less
As compared to what? Some elitist prick who posts here occasionally to brag about his lifestyle, yet ragging on the freeking ex vice-president for taking a private jet all over the world in an effort to raise environmental awareness, and then proactively trying to offset the unfortunate and unavoidable side effects of this campaign with carbon offsets bought with his own money? You're so completely out of your league that you cannot even fathom the idea of someone really trying to make a difference, and practicing what he preaches. Deep down, you're so incensed with the idea that you deserve every mother****ing thing without a thought to sustainability that you and deepblue are even ragging on the man for trying to make a business out of offsetting carbon emissions. If I'm Peabody Coal and I blow up mountains, irretrievably damaging huge swaths of ecology I'm acting as any profit-driven company should - but if I'm trying to sell people a method to reduce their environmental impact, I'm a greedy carpetbagger. Talk about hypocrisy. And jealousy. And idiocy. The reality is that you know he's right, but in your egocentric point of view any advocation of change must imply a limitation on your way of life. And because you cannot comprehend the idea that some things are more important than a petty consumerism-oriented mastubatory facination with "more" and "me" you make the absurd demand that anyone who advocates a more sustainable path for environmental longevity must live in a cave and wear hemp clothing lest he become a hypocrite. If you can't form a coherent argument with some semblance of rational and objective convictions, don't expect anything more than the sam fisher-inspired "wow you're dumb". I fully expect my next post in response to you to be just that. Try and prove me wrong.
The man is brilliant and fully deserving of his world wide recognition. But it will continue to be easy to discredit him if he lives in larger then necessary homes (three of them!) with swimming pools (how often do you think he uses it?) and jets around the country (he could have toured his film and speaking arrangement by bus -- as many rock stars do -- given the number of stops he made). Given his popularity and the nature of his message, he's going to be a target. Some of his life choices make him an easy one.
I applaud anyone that does well and profits and they SHOULD be able to buy whatever they want and travel how ever they want. BUT...Why must I hear that my habits are destroying the planet from someone who on an ABSOLUTE scale my consumption dwarfs. I also live 3 minutes from my office, so on an absolute scale, my carbon footprint is quite minimal. And yes, I bought a big SUV in 2005 for a huge discount. I still feel that commodities and oil are a bubble and and that mc per barrell is around $40-$50, so even with a substantial risk premium, prices are not sustainable at these levels. As Keynes said : The Markets Can Remain Irrational Longer than You can remain solvent. Which is why I will never try to sell short oil etc, just make portfolio tweaks reducing exposure the energy and increasing exposure to financials and big US companies. Conserving is about sacrifice. Though i'm not a conservationist by any means, I don't see Al making any sacrifices in his lifestyle as a global jetsetter with three homes. A few Questions regarding St. Gore: Does anyone live in those homes when he's not there? Why would he not live in a smaller home to conserve resources? Why would he fly in private jets as they are disastrous relative to commercial flying? If someone is asking me to change my habits, I expect a little bit more out of them.
This sentence is so hilarious that it needs no response. That should be your bumper sticker: "My Hero takes a private jet all over the world in an effort to raise environmental awareness" Do as I say, not as I do? Touche!
khan, on a serious note, I'm sure as was stated earlier in this thread, his home is an office. that usage number represents about a $1500-$2000 a month light bill. no way he's burning that on personal living.
Nice job selectively editing that sentence and ignoring everything else. What was that phrase you used? "Great Response" But you're an idiot. I love this "no middle ground" tactic. It's so absurd. According to the gospel of egocentricity as translated by F.D. Kahn, Al Gore's environmentalism necessitates that he not take a private jet despite his schedule and his notoriety. Why stop there? He should only travel on two-seater bicycles! Apparently, you think everyone can only be an F.D. Kahn-inspired w**** of consumerism or a tree-hugging hippy in an amish commune! What fantastic intellect you must have to perfectly divide every argument into exactly two ludicrously extreme sides! And I am now repeating my previous post - which should not surprise me given your obvious inability to comprehend the written word, nevermind reality. As it is, when you are leading a global effort, I'll make an exception for you as well. As it is, you are leading an effort to become the textbook representation of an insecure and ignorant fool. It's about being smart, actually. You should try it. In summary: Wow, you're dumb. Congrats for perfectly meeting my expectations.
As has been pointed out, his Nashville house is much more than a house. He has a place in San Franciso because he's on the board of Google and Apple and does a lot of business in Silicon Valley. He has a place in NY because he owns Current TV and does a lot of business there. And I guess I was wrong about his airplane usage:
Seriously. What is wrong with you? I have not had one derogatory statement towards you and you are completely out of line with your comments, personal attacks and such. Its childish, silly and reflects poorly on your confidence and character. It seems that you have this inner rage and need to lash out in a personal manner, maybe you should seek help or refrain from being on an internet board. I can recommend a therapist if you're interested.
Tata Motors anyone? Here's a link to the 2012 Ultra Luxury Range Rover being developed. Te supercharged will be out in 2013. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050615/biz.jpg
I'm having fun dismantling your poorly thought out arguments. What's wrong with you? More to the point, why are you still avoiding the discussion? I'm still waiting...
