Read the damn post, he IS planting trees (from the carbon credits he buys).

 is for the stupidity of "carbon neutral", since its not about how much energy you save, but how much money you are willing to spend.

A lot of his wealth comes from stocks and board work at Google and Apple. He's not there because he's green, but because of his visionary work on expanding the Internet. His creation of Current TV has little to do with Climate Change. He does have a successful Venture Capital firm aimed at Green businesses and technology. Here's an article on his business dealings:

Please. The guy leads a global movement, is a successful businessman, and meets with kings and presidents. His time is way too valuable to be wasted waiting on a connecting flight.

this logic doesn't make sense. Are people who work for non-profits only acting in their "best interest" when they do good?

At the end of the day everyone does everything that is in their best interest, either mentally, physically, economically, whatever.

The fact that Gore is investing in the green industry doesn't preclude him from believing in that movement. Especially considering he was "ahead of the curve" on this...

As far as carbon credits are concerned...yes, people should d everything in their power to conserve. Unfortunately, the state of the world makes it such that it is very very difficult to be entirely eco-friendly. If you have money to buy carbon credits, it doesn't mean you shouldn't try and also conserve. The fallicy in your argument is that Gore isn't also trying to conserve, based solely on the fact that he owns and uses a private jet. Without being him or following him around, it is impossible to know how much more he can be doing, especially relative to his strong position on the subject, but given the things we know he is already doing, he seems to be doing his part and more.

Holy ****. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. And I usually think you're quite bright, deepblue. Quit channeling Dough-ku - it's dragging down your intelligent image.

Some of these cats are going through heavy denial. Even the President's science panel has belatedly admitted to the effects of man made GW. They didn't read the memo that the delaying phase is over. We're stuck in our mess, but it's "too expensive" to correct the problem...says the new script to be played.

Hmmm.... so if one wants to be able to use as much carbon as one wants, you can simply pay off someone and buy carbon credits! Didn't the church used to have something like that that if you donate a certain amount you can have extra sins! What a CAPITALIST notion!

Doesn't Gore have ownership interest in a firm that sells carbon credits??

I think its funny that a guy that uses more energy in a month than i've used in years is telling me to change my life. Its about SACRIFICE!! Fly first class commercial, have a conference call with overseas folks etc. Only have ONE house and stay in a hotel in other cities.

    Hypocricy at its finest.

^I wonder how many more times ignoramuses (ignorami?) will post a rant about carbon offsets when his use of alternative energy and other items for his house has absolutely nothing to do with carbon offsets.

He uses 'carbon credits' to offset his PRIVATE JET escapades. Jeeez you people are worse than religious nuts if someone says something about one of your saviors.

The fact is that that anyone with three homes and a private jet may promote alternative or whatever, but on an ABSOLUTE level they dwarf what average people use in terms of energy and carbon.

What the hell are you talking about? Gore is worth over $100 million dollars has multiple homes, planes and a globe-trotting lifestyle. I'm an ordinary guy that hasn't even been overseas in over a year. I think i've probably used
5% of the energy/carbon that Al Gore has, therefore i'm the environmentalist and he is the rich, carbon using, paying off others to do what he wants hypocrite.

And you are just a sheep. Baaaaa.

Ok how about minimize your own carbon footprint if you cannot afford to do good things elsewhere with carbon credits.

If you have the cash you can more than offset flying around on a private jet. Save a rain forest, take a trip... get it?
