No, the planet would be doing that even if we weren't here.

Is that so? Thanks for filling us in. Now we don't need to listen to no fancy pants scientific fellers no more.

I did not say it didn't - but the accusation lends me to make a few more deductions regarding your "intelligence".

The point was that your terminology was, at best, misleading. Saying you don't believe in global warming because weather is cyclical is tantamount to saying you don't believe in Germany because Poland was once Prussia.

Fine. But I won't stop pointing out your incorrect statements.

Only inasmuch as the temperature is rising, from the trapped radiation. Thus the above point with regard to terminology. I'm not sure if you're debating me, or yourself.

Which is why I did not say that, if you bothered to read.

Methane is four times worse than carbon dioxide with respect to absorptive capability. So it is a serious problem. Human infatuation with cow meat is not helping in this regard...

Which, obstensibly, is why I did not say that.

Even after you remark in a public forum that you were "a firm believer in Global Warming until I found out that jacka** was behind it."?

No. But I would love to see this "fact".

    Again, fine. I'll be "poster-agnostic".

"Lovely images." That's a great way to dismiss, you know, facts. I must remember that one.

If humans are "somewhat responsible" for the destruction of the world we have to, you know, live in, shouldn't we be doing our best to minimize that impact, rather than grasping at the straw of cyclical changes (which exist, but have NEVER produced data like this). That seems to me very much akin to sticking our fingers in our collective ears, eyes closed, and screaming the national anthem at the top of our lungs.

I suppose the basic point is that no matter WHAT is responsible for global warming, it very much appears to be happening, and cows are not capable of reversing or slowing the trend. We are. We should be doing everything we can to accomplish that.

    Right.....

Which explains why everything is so stable until the industrial revolution, and the subsequent population explosion.

    Thanks professor.

It appears that we have seen the last of Hakeem's substance on the issue. Though I would love to see him reply to your clarifications rather than the arguments he accused you of making.

Your cyclical argument only goes so far. Climate is cyclical, but no where in modern recorded history, have temperatures even come close to spiking the way they have in the last century. (particularly the last few decades)

Also, weather is a terrible indicator of global warming. Global Warming would actually cause Europe to cool because the melting of the ice caps would throw off the gulf stream, depriving Western Europe of vitally important warm water from the jet stream, creating a sudden cooling effect. Also, weather anamolies like El Nino, hurricanes, etc.. all become much more prominent when the currents are thrown off by a sudden rise in cooler waters from melting glaciers.

The most stable measure of global warming is ocean temperatures because the ocean's are so large that they are not influenced by small outliers like atmospheric weather conditions and yes ocean temperatures have steadily risen over the past few years. Anecdotal data on surface temperatures isn't particularly convincing.

As for the Ozone Layer, that brings up a great point. Even back then you had skeptics that argued that CFC's weren't the reason why the ozone layer was rapidly disappearing, well the international community disregarded that and ratified the montreal protocol to phase out CFC's and sure enough, the hole in the Ozone is closing up now.

And finally, lets face it, the scientific consensus supports the idea that human inducecd greenhouse gases are in large degree responsible for the current rise in temperatures. Frankly, I trust them more than your anecdotal claims and more importantly, I have yet to find any real qualified scientist that even comes close to endorsing your position.

It is inevitable, we are all going to die and the world is no longer going to be able to hold life forms, such as other planets that have done the same thing. You can do all you want but you can't change fate. Nothing we do will stop what's going on. THE EARTH IS NOT MEANT TO SURVIVE, EVERYTHING HAS A TIME TO LIVE AND A TIME TO DIE.

Never claimed to be. I am merely a paralegal who has studied effects on the environment ever since I was a tree hugging teenager. The fixing of the earth so to speak was my mission in life. You eventually learn that THE EARTH IS NOT MEANT TO SURVIVE!
