I'm sure everyone has boogie men that they imagine to be real, and make a much bigger deal out of than reality and logic would warrant. Yours seems to be illegal immigration. You might think some folks on the board have a fear about too much executive power involving Bush. But your level of anger and uproar about illegal immigration is bizzare and out of proportion. You can complain about how much money they are costing the system, but guess what is costing the system much more. Debt. The interest on the debt that comes from our taxes is far beyond anything we spend on illegal immigrants. And what do we get out of that? Nothing. At least with services to illegal immigrants somebody gets something. If you were truly concerned about wasting money you would have been up in arms about Bush's economic plans at least half as much as you are about illegal immigrants. So it makes sense that some people would call your rants irrational and paranoid.
I generally just read D&D primarily because of the lack of civility, but I am going to toss in my two cents particularly because I feel like a pinball bounced around by endless political levers. First, I'd vote for Al Gore before Hillary Clinton, and I'd probably vote for the end of the world just before voting for Al Gore. To this day he cuts a comical figure even in comparison with George Bush the younger. Second, I am a fiscal conservative. I am exceedingly distressed by our growing national debt and all the pork barrel spending by Republicans and Democrats alike. I loved Jimmy Carter for fighting against it but at the same time was critical of his presidential ineptitude. On the other hand, I loved Lyndon Johnson for his activism (the Vietnam War was not his fault but that is another thread) but was distressed by his pork barrel mastery. Third, the moderates have no real voice in this country anymore. The right half believes we are going communist and the left half believes with equal fervor that we are going fascist. Either extreme is a dictatorship regardless of how it is painted. These perceptions on my part have left me dangling between the two parties. Each time I lean toward the Democrats somebody like Nancy Pelosi or whathisname Feinstein sends me packing in panic, disgust and distain. Then I listen to the hypocrisy of whathisname Reed and some of the ranking GOP elders and I run the other way toward a foxhole in the middle. I don't want another inventor of the internet or a fake purple heart kind of guy or a pseudo cowboy. Is there not a new candidate out there who speaks to our hearts and heads and pocketbooks? The last time that really happened was a time of Camelot and John F. Kennedy. Are there no more Scoop Jackson Democrats or Teddy Roosevelt Republicans?
"That whole PT-109 thing was a sham and we have the people from PT-107 and PT Boaters for Truth lined up to say it was Kennedy that panicked and his men helped him swim to shore and he faked his injuries and used his dad's power to shut the truth up and make himself look good. He even raped a native girl while he was in the Pacific and now has a son who lives on an island in poverty not knowing that his dad is a cheapskate cheater who won't support him, but the mob covers that up for him. The reason this has happened is the Pope wants to control the US and make us more like France while at the sametime stopping the power of Evangelical Christianity. And don't forget Godless Hollywood, who has Kennedy by the hooks of that tramp who changed her name. And by the way, it seems to me that only people who lack courage write aboout it." --Karl Rove, if he had been around in 1960. I guess it would do no good to point out the Internet quote was taken out of context, intentionally changed, and has been refuted many times. Likewise, it would be fruitless to discuss the Swiftboating of Kerry. The psuedo-Cowboy thing is dead right though. There are Teddy Roosevelt Republicans... today they're called Democrats and some are called Conservatives, though a distinction must be made between these conservatives, who actually value conservation, and the more popular meaning. There's no Scoop Jackson these days because there's no Cold War... the last one you could make an argument for was Sam Nunn. And if you think Scoop would have supported this administration, you don't know Scoop, though I will admit he had a horrible record picking aides... Perle, Wolfowoitz, Abrams, Feith... all perverted his ideas into the self-serving crap we now call Neoconservatism. All conveniently overlooked Scoop's domestic ideas as well.
I question Al Gore's honor and integrity. Gore showed his true colors in the midst of the election, disgacefully putting himself ahead of the best interests of the country.Times of crisis bring out the best and the worst in people. At the very least Al clearly demonstrated he is unfit to lead this country.
Come to the right...er light... I know what you mean...I admire the Democrats of yore such as Truman as I have stated before, but regardless of rimrockers' attempts as he will, the party has changed into something ugly, revolting and disingenuiness...While it is difficult to criticize the party I identify with,...I will admit this administration could have done more...Too often each side may feel a disregard for moderation and coincidentally,...the party which wins there extremes best...will likely be the loser, e.g. Kerry...
Tell that to Karl Rove - acccording to him that is the exact strategy he employed in 2004 which got W a second term.
Ben Franklin once told his wrangling colleagues: "Gentlemen, either we all hang together or we all hang separately." I continue to search for national candidates who will unite the country rather than continue to divide it. Must this desire be so irrational?
After a lifetime of flag-waving patriotism, he rests beneath the colors in which he believed. Not a bad fate.
And that is exactly what Gore did when he became VP and ran for Prez in 2000. Pre 1990 Gore was very big on the environment. Then he was quiet. 2002 rolls around, he decides he is out of the president job hunt, and - boom - envoronment becomes big again.
He believed in me? Wow, he's almost Christ-like. I now repent my wicked Dem ways. And about that flag, above where exactly? http://www.thecemeteryproject.com/images/Famous Dead People/Reagan Gravesite Panorama.jpg
