What has Gore done that is Anti-American? I haven't seen one example of him doing anything anti-American.

It's all related. The more the climate changes, the more dependent some areas will be on mining groundwater.

And, from the article I posted above....

That's just one example. Water rights on the Colorado River have been in litigation since the 1920's. Imagine if it ran between countries instead of states. Now add more heat, which increases demand and also diminishes it by evaporation. Phoenix vs. Los Angeles wouldn't just be about sports teams.

Thing is, we're not even sure he believes what he writes. So who knows where he stands.

2006 - The Nobel Comittee gave the prize to an economist who helped pioneer microloans to extremely poor people.

1970 - The Nobel Comittee gave the prize to the head of an organization which promotes the search for grains which have a higher yield.

I don't remember anybody complaining last year. Perhaps it is more about political concerns about Gore than what the Nobel Prize Comittee is doing?

If we step aside for a second and just assume everything that Gore says is absolutely 100% correct, then what he is doing will help head off massive displacement of populations and societial upheavals.

Fundimentally, any kind of environmental change is a very bad thing, from the point of view of existing populations. If Gore really is preventing that, then he genuinely deserves it at least as much as the 2006 and 1970 award winners.

Yes, of course there is a relationship. It's not one-to-one by any means, but there definitely is a correlation. My point was that you are far more likely to see armed conflict over fresh water in the next 20 to 30 years than climate issues - and I don't mean just water issues related to climate change either - it's a huge problem that goes beyond projections of what climate change might cause.

    from josh --

    D'oh!

You know, with Al Gore winning the Nobel Prize for his environmental activism, it really makes the Nader voters look prescient, doesn't it?

Man, already we have a USA Today story that shows Gore and the scientists have been proven wrong...

If you have never been to Glacier, get there soon. It is magnificent... I've seen lots of this country, but Glacier is special.

Unfortunately, the same can be said about Sequoia... those trees can't climb the mountain to chase cooler temps. They're already stressed.

You guys should really be encouraging Gore, because it looks like it's either him or Hillary at this point... but you won't be able to help yourselves.

Read the thread. Or the Nobel Committee's words. Or anything else related to this story.

Well, I think Newt nailed it. Hard to argue with that, really.
