Hakeem was the second greatest Raptor of all time behind Vince Carter

How many people remember hearing about this amazing kid from Africa through the basketball grapevine and then being disappointed when he had back issues and couldn't play much?

How many remember the Bunce brothers?

I agree with you there. (H)akeem is the Babe Ruth of Houston. There should be a section of board dedicated to Rockets History.

If the younger fans realized how amazing Hakeem was, they might have more reason to show up to games today.

The reason I never bash the "YOF's" or the "TOF's" was because I wasn't a Houston Rockets fan in 1984. Heck I wasn't really an NBA fan. It was when they drafted Hakeem that I got excited. I was a "HOF" for my first year and then grew into a Rockets fan.

Sure there are some fans that spawned into Rocket fans, but obviously not that many. you were here for YOFs, half of them didn't watch the game, you say Yao had a horrible rebounding game, they think you insulted their grandma.

Don't you remember how they made Larry Smith the most hated person in China?

Those other guys are plain delusional with their dumb what if scenarios and lame excuses and jealousy of the other true stars of the league.

Dream was legit and his accomplishments proved it, individually and team wise.

Best Hall & Oates song? My vote goes to Kiss on My List, with I Can't Go For That a close second.

Hey come on. Yao is a likable guy and a very good sportsman.... I don't think they defended him because he was such a good basketball player I think they defended because he was one of China's treasures.....like the Panda!
That is what you can't understand. You always think it is because of the missed rebounds whereas this is more about other things to his only fans.

I might add. Hakeem was the better bball player by far but Yao had something that he hasn't......... billions of followers.
What's the follower numbers on CF? And it is divided.

Ok....I got it....... I can't say for sure how many of those are around. There are reasonable Yao Ming fans.....that watches the NBA and all the other players.

I still have my "Akeem" autograph, I got while out eating, he was at the table next to mine. The only autograph I cared to keep over the years.

Yeah but half of them were kids and the other half were just proud to have a Chinese guy who could be an all-star in the NBA. I mean, sure they were delusional, but why rain on their parade ya know?

They wanted to believe Yao was great not because he was but because he was their hero. I can empathize with that even though it was totally ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, they annoyed me and I was enemy number one after saying it was a huge mistake to draft Yao. But I think people forget that most of those guys didn't know heck about basketball.

I mean, when Olajuwon came into the league, I remember saying he was the best big man ever - and my older cousin would say - hello - Wilt? And I would think, who the heck is wilt - Akeem would destroy him! It was ridiculous back then. Not so much now. But a lot of NBA fans would think that is ridiculous. Just saying.

If this forum was full of tinmans, lets just say this BBS would've died of quickly. Even one is already a handful.

For people who just think that Dream was just a 90s player, it's not acceptable.

We need to Transform them. I call upon the heroes of cfnet to roll out!
