Plus, what postion is he going to play? PF? we have Scola who is better than him, SF? He is not quick enough, and can not shot.
If I wanted to see crying girls at the Toyota Center I'd tell the Power Dancers that Santa doesn't exist.
I am with pillage, If you believe that Alston has no position/future on the team then the trade would essentially be an AK47 for Battier trade, and I would do that trade. AK has a big game, and you would have Yao, Scola, TMac and AK for the next three years. That is a pretty hot core. Battier fits the Utah mold like a glove, and Alston could provide a solid backup PG for them. AK47 would be better suited to Adelman's offense than Sloan's. Does Utah feel the same - I say no. The only way they trade him is if he forces their hand, and not unlikely if he has just had enough of them. Do they trade him to Houston just to get Battier/Alston - I still say no. Interesting though.
half the team? we are talking about battier and alston who would see some minutes on the court. others are just fillers. Ak's contract is the only bad thing about it, but if he is producing 5x5 stats, why not? at least he have a skill that no one in rox team have, weak side block shots. He plays hard on deffense. His a reasonable 3p shooter at 30% career, but he do do score at an effective 46% career. He miss 12 games last season, and 13 the season before that. Which is not too bad. He is only 26, why would you want to move him? But to be honest, this is all talk but no show, as rox would not be using battier as a poster child and then move him out.
Another dream thread... Here are 5 reasons why Rockets won't trade for AK47 and there are numerous others... 1.AK has HUGE contract and if any team wants to trade for him must give up more players... 2.He would not fit in our team, especially in Adelman's system 3.We have alredy got Battier who is more thankful player and better perimeter defender than AK 4.AK is too risky for salary that he's playing and often injured. 5.I don't want to see his face in Houston after series against Utah Again I doubt that Morey is even thinking about this... He is worried about trimming the roster not adding new players.. And yeah he said our OFFSEASON is over...no more players just releasing them ( this not includes JL3 deal)
1) We have way more players on the roster than we can carry during the season, according to the rules of the league. That is not a reason to pass on a "trade." 2) AK47 fits Adelman's system. Battier may, as well, but they bring different skills to the position. AK47 can play the 4. Battier has proven that he can't handle that position more than a few minutes a game. While I think Scola is going to be a stud, he'll have a period where he'll have to lean the NBA style of play, and how to work the refs. AK has already gone through that process, and can play the 3. AK can really bring a lot to a fast break, something we need. Battier really doesn't bring us a lot there. 3) Battier and AK47 have different skill sets. AK47 (damn, that would get old, quick) would bring us things Battier cannot do. Battier has skills he doesn't have. I'd rather have AK47's skills than Battier's, given the option. Weakside blocking, which we sure as hell could use, better passing skills, which we could use, and an equally (really better, imo), if different, ability to be a disruption, big time, for an opposing team defensively. 4) Yes, he has a big contract. That's a downer. The guy is only 26, though, and can/will still improve, in my opinion. We need to clear some space on the roster. We'd be trading equal salaries. I don't think his health is an issue. That's my opinion. And who knows how long we'll have a healthy McGrady, or a healthy Yao? AK brings us a young, still improving stud that we could use for the next 3 years. We need to get to the Finals at least once, hopefully every damn one of the next 3 years, to get a crack at some more title banners at the TC. AK just might be the difference. He might not. Sometimes you roll the dice. AK and Sloan, right now and last season, are like oil and water. They don't mix. I think he'd mix just fine in Houston. Yes, he's an ugly SOB. So what, if he can play? Having said all that, I don't think it'll happen. I didn't think there was a chance in hell the Scola deal would happen, either. You never know.
I don't get the obsession some posters here have with trying to snatch up every single player that has the slightest possibility of being available. With all the talk about AK's 5x5s and whatnots, the bigger question is, CAN he or CAN'T he play within a structured offense as nothing more than the 3rd option? Given his pouts to the media and his play this past year, the answer is a resounding NO. Face it, AK47 is a classic tweener. He's too skinny to effectively guard PFs 1-on-1 and he's not quick enough, nor does he have a jumpshot to play SF. His stats look gaudy. He wreaks havoc off of his weakside help defense, but anyone who thinks if we bring him here for Battier and he can contain the guys that Battier draws night in and night out, you're kidding yourselves. Say what you want about Battier, he has his limitations, but I'll be damned if I find a smarter player on the defensive end. No, he doesn't produce 5x5s like AK47 does, but imo, Battier's impact on the court goes beyond his personal stats. The deal-breaker is both AK47's contract, and his recent media escapades. Who's to say that once he moves on to another team, he won't repeat what he's doing now if he fails to adapt? Adaptability is key. I don't know what delusions of grandeur he had in his head, but even when Boozer was out in '05-'06, the contract that he received was still waaaay bloated even though he's playing out of his mind. Who does he think he is? He strung together a season of star-studded basketball, and suddenly he thinks he has the superstar leverage to force his way out of Utah? Get real. I wouldn't want another character like that on the Rockets. Bonzi, Francis and MJ together are enough headcases for this team.
OMG, why are we still freakin talking about this trade. someone lock this up pls. reasons: 1. SF, tmac, AK, scola, Yao. would look good on fantasy BB or on paper. we got no bench. 2. AK's stock is declining and he needs to be the man in order to be effective. Hence, he is 4th or 5th man on the team. if he is not happy in Utah, what makes you think he would be happy here? 3. Utah could easily get better trading bids from other eastern teams than one from rockets. 4. where is our future? resign scola? resign head? resign SF? 3 max contacts on a team is not the way to go. unless you think boston fillers are as good or equal to our current roster with 3 max contracts. 5. image - we do not want to be the wimpy team with a crybaby!!!
Well if the jazz were gonna take thrash in return, they would atleast want those thrashes atleast have expirers. besides sura contract, none of those guys have any appeal.
We already signed AK-47 as an undrafted free agent. It would be cheap to sit him on the bench and let him get some NBA work experience. No one works harder than Antanas.
Mike James, Bonzi, Hayes, Brooks, Snyder, Butler, Dikembe (?) would all be on the bench if the trade is Sura, Alston, and Battier. I doubt Sura or Alston play much for the Rockets next season anyway. The Rockets have too many players and will have to cut and/or trade someone.
I would agree here. I think the Jazz would prefer to just get Battier, Alston, and Sura vs Battier, Alston, Sura, Reed, Luca, and Landry. I don't know if the Jazz would even want to do Battier, Alston, and Sura, but it offers them a solid player, a player at a need position, and salary cap flexibility.
He is not a cry baby, just an emotional person like Tmac. Ay dios! there is nothing wrong with crying, i did it yesterday when the astros hired their new GM
if AK opts out of his contract, everyone and their momma will be on the phone to sign him. if we could land him... but i think he'll end up somewhere like LA
If anyone can do it, it's Morey. Cut a couple of players and sign this guy. But I can see the Clippers aggressively going after him now that Brand is out for the season.
The Jazz may not even want to trade with us, we may not even want to trade with them, nonetheless I agree that sending over our trash, Landry, Reed, etc. isn't going to get it done. However, an extremely solid and professional Battier would fit in perfectly with Sloan and the Jazz, Alston isn't Fisher but he's a lot better than they have at backup PG and Sura is salary flexibility which every team wants. All this for a player who doesn't want to play for them - can we say V-Span anybody? Maybe the Jazz can get better offers, but this makes sense for them. For the Rockets, Alston probably isn't in the plan, Sura definitely isn't, so its Battier for AK47. But we have to take in Morey's moneyball philosophy here, is Kirilenko's skill sets at his contract, more or less valuable than Battier's at his contract. In this case Battier wins, so ultimately that's why I don't think this trade is going to go down. AK47 really wants out of Utah now, and he's willing to get out of his contract. Now if that's the case than IMO AK47 has a lot more value than Battier. He gives us more flexibility and his defensive presence with Deke would be awesome. There's a difference in him wanting to be the third option and being yanked out and not played for missing a jumpshot. The guy's career average is 12.9, and that's not third option numbers. I figure as long as he's a part of the team he'll be happy. I believe he can play a very important role on the team, and would therefore be content. Who knows if it will happen or not, probably not, but I for one would certainly welcome the move.
