was at the game tonight and saw Reed close up he passes the eye test Reed was easily the biggest guy on either team, with the exception of maybe Morales, but Morales is just fat, whereas Reed is a tank
Good showing by Reed tonight. He was definitely seeing the ball well and putting some very good swings on pitches.
Definitely good to see 2 walks, a sacrifice fly, and 2 well hit fly balls tracked down by a very good outfield.
Calling up Reed when they did was great timing. AJ acknowledged it was partly due to the fact we are facing a string of RHP in the coming days. More so, they brought him up at a time to avoid putting additional pressure on him. Much like they did with Correa last year, they managed to bring him up when the team was hot. Not only was the team hot, but Reed was hot. This helps alleviate any additional pressure he may have had to help turn the team around or himself around. The timing of this was brilliant, and should allow him to play loose and comfortable (as loose and comfortable as you can making your ML debut, of course).
He will hit, but start him in the 7th spot, or 8th. Also, in big situations, against a lefty, late in the game, use Marwin, please
He doesn't look ready, but willing to give him a few weeks at the bottom of the lineup to get used to the level of play. Gonzalez looks much better. White looks about the same.
Just looks like he's pressing to me. He's got a nice, quiet swing; I like that he keeps it simple. He just needs something to break the ice for him and I think he'll be fine.
Jeff Bagwell, Lance Berkman, and Craig Biggio went a combined 3-50 with 5 walks in their early plate appearances.
Dude has got to start swinging the bat. I liked last night that after Reed struck out looking with a man in scoring position and no outs that AJ Hinch was over there talking to him. It's not often you see the manager talking one-on-one with a player as this seems to usually be left to the hitting or pitching coach. Hinch was probably letting him know he's going to be in a lot less trouble if he goes down swinging as opposed to taking a called strike 3 in such an important situation. Thankfully, it didn't end up mattering. When do we change Carlos Correa's name to Clutch Correa?
I am not worried, he will hit. Now, he better get the single on Friday because he will not play on Saturday and Sunday
