I'd actually be impressed with the NFL if they didn't suspend AJ. It would mean they've focused on the situation with more scrutiny than most organizations would in similar situations. Finnegan has a long history, has been warned before, and instigates these situations time and time again. The league is better suited in identifying the real problem and containing it; having a guy single handedly trying to damage that 'image' the league so desperately wants to project is a detriment. It's a pipe dream, of course. More than likely the NFL will play it safe and give them both a one game and a fine and move on...until Finnegan does it again, of course.
In other words, a man can "take control of the situation" without throwing haymakers on a guy who's hiding on the ground like the overgrown sissy he is. Hey, I *enjoyed* seeing it, and I *liked* that AJ did it. But he's going to get suspended for it, as anyone who does that should.
But they'd be saying that as long as you think a guy has provoked you, it's OK to jump on him while he's on the ground with his back turned to you and throw haymakers onto his head. And then throw one more parting uppercut while the ref is pulling you away. Dude, you can't sanction that. If the NFL doesn't deal with that, you'll have guys ripping each other's helmets off and throwing haymakers every week.
First, Finnegan threw the first jab, threw a punch at his helmet, and then ripped his helmet off. Why are you saying he cowered to the ground when he just threw Andre's helmet off? Are you telling me that you cannot tell that he was "thrown" to the ground? After he's thrown to the ground, you can see him make a move to try to get up. Andre (being the beast that he is) decisively put his weight on Finnegan and got one clean shot on him. If Johnson didn't make that move, Finnegan would've been straight up and had a chance to hit Andre. If you're involved in a physical altercation, you don't just allow for the other guy to get up when he wants to hurt you. Andre apologized to his teammates because he realized that he would be disciplined and it affects his team. He claims to be ashamed because what else is he going to say? He knows being politically correct will give him the best chance to return to the field this week. IIRC, he said he had no words for Finnegan, and I'm betting he's been wanting to do this for a while. You should be ashamed for criticizing Johnson's actions, and I do hope that you're never in the same position because it seems the short guido looking ******* will get the best of you.
Is anyone listening to Jim Rome? I'd actually like to hear his take on it (for once) after his Margarito tweet yesterday.
Unfortunately the AJ/Finn fight was WAY worse. I understand Finn is a little b*tch and that AJ has one of the best reputations in the league, but rules are rules and you can't rip helmets off and throw punches during a game. If AJ doesn't get suspended, it's Goodell basically stating that he gets to pick and choose who he wants to enforce the rules for and who he doesn't. And we should have all learned in grade school that it's not "who started it," its who finished it.
I was listening earlier. He was loving the fight, and loved that Kubes gave him the game ball. Said that he was definitely going to get suspended. Made some Nolan Ryan references. Machine gunned a bunch of barely-humorous jabs at Finnegan. Dead air. Typical Rome stuff.
First of all, I haven't been very critical of AJ's actions at all. Just that they warrant a suspension. Secondly, I am not ashamed, but thanks for the lecture. And I've stood my ground just fine when I needed to, thank you very much.
You may not be critical, but I was confused at your interpretation of the fight. Your interpretation did not seem to add up to what I saw at all. I understand that there are different points of view, but I'm not sure how you can act like what Andre did was cheapshotting or uncalled for. With another look, I'm not sure how you can say that Finnegan was cowering, he seemed to be looking for a fight from the hike, and continued to taunt afterwards.
He shouldnt have brought the "Miami" outta him....everybody knows you dont **** wit a Miami nagga..Finnergan obviouly didnt get the memo from Ray Lewis
AJ didnt attack him with his back turned. They were facing each other and he threw him down and continued after him. Of course, suspending AJ and not Finnegan sends the message that it's ok to be a douche and a dirty player. If someone calls you on it and beats the hell out of you they will be suspended and you won't.
That was reflexes. The cowering you saw him do during the fight was what he is made of. The taunting before and after was just him talking. Innegan is a wimp!
Finnegan got the best of AJ. He actively tries to get under a guy's skin. He wanted to provoke AJ and he accomplished his goal. AJ's actions should not be condoned.
Not arguing he isn't a wimp, and that cowering comes from getting belted in the side of the head. The point was, Finnegan was attempting to fight (just very poorly)
