I am not going to lie, when I go sit in one of those seats hoping for a relaxing flight or am stressed out or need to relax before some sort of meeting and I see a baby in the same row or area, it is annoying for sure. That said, the flip side, if I want to pay for that ticket and I am a parent, I can't travel there any more because of a kid. There is not correct answer to this since its an imperfect thing despite which way you go. I guess ideally babies shouldn't be flying that young, but you have to do it at times. just gotta suck it up and get some noise cancelling phones(heavy duty)
This!!!! The main reason for discomfort is the pressure on the ears because they don't know how to pop them by themselves. Lollipops are good for this.
Stickers. Iphone/Ipad (although they will get bored of it if the flight is long). As to the topic - it's a large piece of machinery designed to take many, many people to a place at once. Arguing against a certain age group due to momentary discomfort is daft.
I can deal with babies. But dudes who are too big for their seat should be forced to buy two seats. Nothing wise than flying 10 hours with some dudes fat and arms half way on your side of the arm rest.
Would you rather fly with a crying infant on board or have mutha****in snakes in the mutha****in plane?
I typically end up drinking to excess to drown out the annoying crying babies... that helps a lot. I've flown business class once a week (free upgrade on the return flight home to Chicago I take every weekend) for the last year and never had a crying baby in my vicinity... and with that i probably jinxed myself for my flight this week. dammit.
That is why you gotta scope out that territory first, man! I always board as soon as my group is eligible to board... then i get in my seat and take up both of my arm rests fully and turn up my ipod and close my eyes. no one bothers me and i get both armrests to myself.
I don't understand how making them buy another 1st class seat is going to help...they're still going to cry. It sounds like you guys are trying to think of anything to punish those that have kids because you're so butt hurt with having to put up with the same whinning that you use to annoy others with when you were kids. Oh wait...you guys never annoyed anyone else when you were little kids...lol
The reason babies cry so much on airplanes is because they can't clear their ears with the change in cabin pressure. If you have ever flown with a head cold you srt of know what they are experiencing. It can be excruciating. Giving children an antihistimeine/decongestant when flying gives you two forms of relief. 1. their sinuses and ears are more open and 2. it makes them drowsy and sleepy. People, planes are PUBLIC transportation. It's a miracle in itself that you can sit in an aluminum tube going 500 miles an hour 7 miles up in the air. You should expect everything the general public can be. You are your responsibility. DO:Get some noise canceling head phones, some Ambien, buy a couple of drinks after take off, wear a mask, take some Cipro DON'T: expect the world to conform to your desires
Newsflash: Airlines are a for-profit business. If they can sell a 1st class ticket rather than a coach ticket ...they will. As a parent, my perspective has changed. Parents are generally TERRIFIED about their own screaming kids. The parents are typically working very hard to comfort their kids. If it is "uncomfortable" for you, I can assure you that it is 100x more uncomfortable for the parents. I'm a complete wreck after traveling with my kids. Now rather then giving the parents dirty looks, I actually give the parents a look of empathy to try to make them feel a little better. As for hints for parents, go to CVS/Walgreens or something and buy a bag full of cheap little toys and pull them out one-by-one throughout the flight. Video's only last so long. Also, give them something to drink at takeoff and landing to help clear up their ears.
Geez just suck it up, they don't go at it for that long anyways, most get tired after a couple minutes of screaming. I was on a 15 hour flight recently with a baby sitting two rows in front. Yes it was kind of annoying, I just walked around when he cries for too long, no biggie.
I think that the point would be that the parents would think twice about flying first class with an infant if they had to buy a ticket for the infant.
