As a rule of thumb, I run every possible trip through the itinerary at http://www.iflyswa.com or www.southwest.com first, then if I can't book through them I go to jetblue, or ATA... but you can't beat the SWA pricing when available. America West can have some good rates too... if you're out west with no SWA coverage.
for LAX to NY the SW flight is really expensive isn't SWA the airline on that tv show... which often comes off fairly cheap in both price and standards
Smeg, From the following, it appears that QF 11 does not arrive at the AA terminal, but It might be worth calling Qantas to check. http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/atTheAirport/airportGuide/lax (The AA Terminal is Terminal 4) It takes significantly longer to get through customs at Tom Bradley (the main International Terminal), however the AA terminal is right next door, so commute time between the two will be minutes. I think Qantas and AA have a deal with each other for codeshare and through bookings - if you book with AA, they may "guarantee" the connection which means they will help you out if you miss it. I notice that they have another flight at 12.15 if you miss the 11.15. A couple of other things to consider. Try booking the LAX to NYC through Qantas - they may give you a deal since you are paying big bucks for the International leg. Have you already bought the Sydney-LAX ticket? Qantas have a flight from Sydney - LAX - NYC. Might be cheaper. Things are going well over here - busy as always. The West Coast season was fun ride that ended badly When are you planning this trip? I don't get to the States much anymore, but I may have a trip to do next may. I would love to participate in the Smeg World Tour Rev 2! I'm still ripped off that I spent 5 years in Houston and you arrived their 2 months after i left.
Davo, 1. Nice prelim win by the West Coasters over my Crows, unlike a lot of Adelaide I always thought a second loss in 3 weeks by the Eagles at home in Perth was never going to happen 2. This trip is planned for Feb 06, we depart Aus on the 3rd and arrive back on March 1, so far planned stops are NY, Chicago (staying with Achebe), side trip to Milwaukee to see a Bogut game, maybe Phoenix, then Houston and San Fran for a few days on the way out. 3. Doesn't seem to mention QF 11 at landing at either Tom bradley or Terminal 4, last time I was there we left thru tom bradley and it was a reconstruction mess, ok just checked our booking and it says it arrive at TERMINAL 4 4. Our booking is made through frequent flyer points, will certainly check about a flight to New York through Qantas as i know they have a sydney via LA Ny flight but doubt it will be cheap knowing Qantas' liking for screwing aussies on price 5. I suspect the AA 11:15 flight is going to be the easiest, then we arrive at JFK at 8pm, get into city, check in, eat and sleep..... 6. We must catch up
If JFK is the international airport, there is a bus (High class and comfortable) that will get you into Timesquare for a couple bucks. Which means they prob have a bus that will take you to SoHo as well. New York Airport Service Express Bus: The fare is $13, which you pay in cash to the bus driver. The busses operate once every twenty to thirty minutes between 6am and midnight. For exact schedules call (718) 875-8200. The trip is 45 minutes to an hour and there are several stops in Manhattan: Grand Central Terminal, 125 Park Avenue (betw. 40 and 41st Streets) NOTE: From here you can catch a shuttle bus to many New York hotels for $2 The Eighth Avenue and 42nd St. Wing of The Port Authority Bus Terminal Penn Station, 34th Street (betw. 7th and 8th Avenues)
If you are driving, here is the map: http://www.ny.com/cgibin/frame.cgi?...viation/jgrafram.htm&frame=/frame/travel.html
thanks PSJ for the bus stuff we will certainly not be driving in NY you should come up to NY for the Rox game on the 5th of Feb
call up SuperShuttle, they deliver door to door service with a reservation, the more people in your party, the cheaper it is per person to ride... now a real New Yorker would take the Air-Train to Jamaica Station, then take the subway into the city, then you can go anywhere in the 5 boroughs you want!!! all for $7... do you plan on riding the subway smeg? a weekly unlimited will cost you $21 and will let you ride around as much as possible... for concerts and music, check out B.B. King's, S.O.B.'s, Irving Plaza, Roseland, or Hammerstein Ballroom for the smaller venue shows...
I have visited NY several times before the first time didn't use the subway much but after that used it everwhere, including getting to LaGuardia for flight, so it is certainly an option just not sure after that much flying and with bags we will want to yeah read about the $21 pass for the week, will certainly get one of those
bringing this back again just checked sidestep.com again and the price for the AA flight is now $139 whereas the previous mentioned flight on jetblue is $68, so half price.... think we will book the 1pm flight on jetblue from long beach, which means we don't have to rush to get to long beach, can take our time get a cab or shuttle, get some lunch and snacks for the flights and even if it cost us $40 for a cab to long beach we are still in front and not in a rush we get to JFK at 9:30 then, will book and shuttle and then get to out NY hotel across 110 may book tickets for the rox game on the 5th at MSG soon
booked the 1:15pm JetBlue flight to NY/JFK... cost us $135 in total for the two of us been looking for our other flights, although probably won't book them till later, amazingly enough it looks like the longest flight we have LA to NY will be our cheapest
I just booked a flight for my wife from IAH to Los Angeles for $178 round trip on Continental for the 3rd week in December. Incredible price.
