No doubt we would all be there and for the most part the players are all there but making 1mill or 50 mill don't mean you can't or shouldn't feel disgruntled about having to work on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

they sacrifice time away from their family all season long. the dam coach cant cut them slack on thanksgiving? AI is a prima donna yes. but i completely understand where hes coming from.

i wouldnt have shown up to practice either. so what. let stuckey start the next game. pay the fine. your kids only grow up once. and your family should always come before your career. esp. when you already have 10s of millions of dollars.

Maybe the coach played a dumb move, but all those supporting AI are forgetting that this is a TEAM practice.

    He doesn't get my support.

I agree with much of what has been stated. It just isn't right to make people come to work on a holiday. Plain wrong. But Iverson owed it to the rest of the team to show up if they did.

Having said that, from what I see of the Pistons squad they seem to have a way of sticking together and giving coaches little respect. I imagine when they see AI all will be forgiven and the conversation will immediately lead to what a punka$$ they think Curry is. In fact, Rasheed and AI have probably already gotten high together and laughed about it.

There are times for a coach to do things like this, and then there are times when he will just get his players offside by calling practice at a bad time.

I think this is the latter.

These players live in each others pockets all season, and sure, call early practice at the right time, but not on one of the few chances a player can get home and spend time with their family.

If AI had much of a relationship with the other players, seems like he would have communicated with SOMEONE beforehand and wouldn't have ended up the only player missing practice. Now he becomes the donkey all by himself. I don't think the others like him. AI doesn't fit the culture of that team and it's a bad match.

Regarding not respecting the coach, Dumars will lower the boom if that happens again. While I think he knew Flip was part of the problem, the whole thing about the players not doing what Flip said ticked him off pretty bad.

The Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions work on Thanksgiving Day EVERY year. Good thing Iverson doesn't play football.

Dumars is probably hitting his forehead right now for making that trade.

    A real game?

He should have gone, everybody else did, but the coach is a total dick. Do any NBA teams have practice the morning after a night game? And to do it on Thanksgiving morning even though they won the game, it's ridiculous.

I agree, and he has enough money...he should have told the coach he was not coming though, at least give the coach a chance to cancel it and save face.

There are millions of people every holiday working.

But since he plays pro ball and makes tons of money he shouldn't have to work on a holiday? (see nfl)

Is that it? Silver spoon = holiday off?

I hope he has a better reason for skipping practice than what I'm seeing here.

He's sorry. Of course, it was a "personal matter".

    http://www.freep.com/article/20081128/SPORTS03/81128033/1051

Pistons point guard Allen Iverson expressed remorse today for missing practice on Thanksgiving.

Addressing the media after shoot-around in preparation for tonight's home game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Iverson said he didn't know if he would play, but "would accept whatever happens."

"First of all, I have no excuses. I apologize to my teammates, first and foremost, the coaching staff, the organization and definitely our fans," Iverson said today. "It's something that shouldn't have happened and it won't happen again."

"It was a personal matter, but I just handled it the wrong way. I didn't call and let them know what was going on."

On a serious tip, If I was getting the money AI was making, I'd show up for practice on any Holiday. Twice on Christmas. So what if its Thanksgiving? Practice doesn't take up the whole day and you are not going to die if you work on a holiday. Football teams play actual games and 4 NBA teams played on Thanksgiving Day. And you're telling me that some of you guys would have skipped practice too? Where is your work ethic people?

I don't support him missing practice even if it was a holiday. He doesn't get a holiday automatically off. That is not how it works in the NBA. There were NBA games on Thanksgiving too. Would have he skipped a game? It really looks bad when everybody else showed up, who also have families, and he didn't.

Edit: Love the "personal matter" excuse. Suuurrrrrre.
