I had the same thought just a little while ago. I also always root for Texas universities when they're playing outsiders, even when it's A&M. I was shocked to find out that aggies root against UT even if they're in a bowl game against an 'outsider'. The 'problem' they have with UT extends beyond their pride for the State of Texas. It's not that big a deal, but it is pretty weak. I guess it just comes with being #2 (although it seems like Tech is trying to usurp A&M's claim to 2nd best )
"Rooting for the GREAT State of Texas or the Home of Dirt Thieves & every other trailer trash stereotype...hmm..." Oh yeah, like that was necessary. I think that just might be why everyone wants to see Texas to fail.
Really? So the extension of your logic is that if UofH wins the Conference USA basketball championship, it's not a positive reflection on the whole state? No, UofH didn't care whether the other Texas schools/fans cheered or them or not. But that's not the point. The point is the reflection on the level of basketball played here. I'm from Ohio and I can tell you with little reservation that even though Michigan was an absolutely hated rival, Buckeye fans would much rather have had another Big 10 representative win the Rose Bowl than a PAC 10 team. I also see major elements of cheering for your rival during the NCAA March Madness tournament where fans from the ACC root for other ACC teams. You're free to do what you want, but I think you logic is really convoluted.
Thank you. UT and Texans in general have a reputation for being cocky as hell, and that is why we are hated. I guess to be a "true" Texan this is a requirement? Give me a break.
So are you saying people should root for teams outside of Texas when they're playing Texas teams? Unless it's like their Alma Mater or such, I don't think so? I'm just joking about the Oklahoma diss, lighten up...
Convoluted? It's ironic that you use that word, right after saying, "you're free to do what you want." I can see why some people cheer for other teams, but I don't. And I won't bother to say that their opinion is "convoluted" either. I just don't really bother to cheer for teams who I don't have ties with.
kidrock8: "Why don't we all just cheer for the 117 D-1 schools? After, all we are all Americans right?" Well, if there were football teams from other countries playing those schools then yes.
Maybe because they like to see Texas lose? Please, it's stupid. People have the privilige to root for who they want. Its not like its a law that says everyone in Texas has to root for Texas universities playing outsiders or else you will be executed.
Yes they do have that privilege I never said you're not a true Texan if you root against UT. I'm just saying it makes more sense to root for UT than OU. Well, at least to me. I'd root for A&M against OU. Anyways, to each his own...
Actually, it's not ironic at all. It's just that I have read enough of your posts to know that will never admit to being wrong under any circumstances and to any degree. You habitually frame circumstances to suit yourself and will never admit that some aspects of a disagreement are purely subjective to an individuals point of view. Now, answer tozai's relevant question - why should a native Texan going to A&M root for OU? (Because I know your posting style - your answer will be "why should they root for UT?")
i wouldn't expect aggies to root for UT. I'm very indifferent to other Big 12 teams (or Texas teams) if they're victory/loss has no effect on UT's national or conference ranking. I don't think its all that uncommon.
i guess those fans have more hate towards UT than I (or others like me) have towards A&M. They must hate being in our shadow in recent years. Personally, i think the UT/A&M rivalry has lost a lot of its luster over the years.
Actually, I just said that I can see why people think to cheer for other state teams. Rather than go by my "post history", just read my post.
So, I'm taking it everybody here from Houston roots for the Cowboys? A&M dislikes UT because of the rivalry...Aggies are pretty much indifferent to the Sooners because there isn't much of a history between the two schools...therefore, most Aggies root for OU. It's that simple. Texas pride has absolutely nothing to do with it.
This thread is just ridiculous. Let's all let bygones be bygones and allow other fans to root for whoever the hell they want.
What are you talking about recent years? Aggies have never rooted for UT since the beginnning of time. I can't believe some of you are acting surprised.
i don't care if they root for UT. I'm just mildly surprised they root against UT. i didn't think they would care, if the outcome of the game doesn't affect their team's rankings.
